Web Summit 2020 online only: from 2 to 4 December
Eventually, the 2020 Web Summit will also be online only. Despite the fact that in recent months the number one of the event has repeatedly confirmed the will to organize it in its traditional formula "in presence" in Lisbon, the worsening of the health crisis at European level has forced a turnaround. A decision based on common sense.

The Web Summit will also be 100% digital this year

About 800 speakers will be on the virtual stage of the event including Eric Yuan (CEO of Zoom), Margrethe Vestager (European Commissioner for Competition) and Mike Schroepfer (CTO of Facebook). Over 500 companies have confirmed their presence: among them Cisco Systems, Siemens, UBS, Twilio and Cloudflare. We report below in translated form the words of Web Summit CEO Paddy Cosgrave, who motivated the choice.

Lisbon is still the home of Web Summit, but with the growing COVID-19 epidemic in Europe we have had to think about what is best for the people of Portugal and for our participants. The safest and most reasonable answer is to organize Web Summit only online in this 2020. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Lisbon in 2021.

The 2020 edition was planned from 2 to 5 November in the Portuguese capital, while in its new digital form will be staged from 2 to 4 December. Considered the largest European technology conference of the year in terms of attendance (70,000 people attended in 2019), Web Summit was organized from its first appearance in 2009 and running through 2015 in Dublin, Ireland, and then relocated on a permanent basis in Lisbon.
