Lego Harry Potter: Hogwarts always more beautiful!

Lego Harry Potter: Hogwarts always more beautiful!
If we were children, LEGO Harry Potter would be our favorite theme: adventures, fantastic creatures, mysterious animals, castles full of secret passages. And even as adults, to be honest, LEGO Harry Potter is still one of our favorite themes! It is true that from the construction point of view the sets are quite simple, but the quality of the details, accessories and minifigures is truly excellent. Compared to previous releases, the new Harry Potter Wizarding World is a must-buy for fans of the wizard with the lightning scar and also for all other children looking for adventures and emotions. In this article we will only deal with the sets that will allow you to build the HOGWARTS castle: they are now FIVE, of medium / high range, plus a sixth “special” of very high range and only for expert builders. Keep in mind that the first five sets can be combined together so if you have them all in your hands you can recreate a wonderful display diorama.

UPDATE - OCTOBER 2020

Did you know that some of the sets more recent of the Harry Potter theme have been conceived and designed to be (also) joined together to compose the Hogwarts diorama? Well yes, in addition to the monumental LEGO Harry Potter set # 71043 Hogwarts Castle, (>>> Click here to buy it on LEGO Shop @ Home), which however represents the School of Magic in microscale, the LEGO Harry Potter # 75948 sets, # 75953, # 75954 (2019) and the most recent # 75969 (2020) when combined together, can give us the chance to build our own brick version of the mythical School.

In addition to these “modular” sets in a diorama, there are also other releases of 2020 dedicated to Hogwarts that could contribute to enrich your collection. Let's see them together.

75966 - Hogwarts Room of Requirement

Dumbledore's Army trains to practice magic in the mysterious Room of Requirements. Let's help Harry teach the Patronus Charm, a hare for Luna and an otter for Hermione. The stud shooters can be attached to the hands of the minifigures to shoot the mechanical Death Eater!

In addition to the 2 centaurs, we will be able to use the giant posable (and buildable) Grop to capture the Umbridge and take it… wherever we want!

75979 - Edvige

We have already talked about it in our review: the Edvige model consists of 630 pieces and has a wingspan of 34 cm. It depicts Hedwig flying to deliver Harry a Howler. Once the construction is complete, simply operate a crank located on the back of the stand to make the wings move elegantly thanks to the mechanism included in the construction. The white bird of prey rests on a solid base with a LEGO Harry Potter minifigure and another small Hedwig (minifigure version) with open wings, new in 2020 LEGO Harry Potter theme sets.

What is Hogwarts?

Don't you know what Hogwarts is? It is a fortress-school located in Scotland, near the village of Hogsmeade and not far from Dufftown in Lochaber: it is halfway between a haunted manor and a university college. In this magical castle all the adventures of the seven Harry Potter books take place. With its soaring towers, its animated paintings, its fairy stairways and its secret rooms it is a perfect setting for a thousand and more adventures!

75969 –Tower of Astronomy

Inspired by book and from the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince this new set in addition to offering a wide choice of minifigs (Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Horace Slughorn, Luna Lovegood, Neville Longbottom, Ron Weasley, Lavender Brown, Draco Malfoy and Hedwig) will allow you to add the potions classroom and the Ravenclaw dormitory to your collection. Together with the other sets it will make your castle even more beautiful!

75947 - Hagrid's Hut: Buckbeak's Rescue

Let's start with a medium-sized set (the least expensive of the bunch) which, although it doesn't have battlements, towers or secret passages, earns full place in the sets of Hogwarts: this is Hagrid's hut, home and starting point of some of the adventures of Harry and his friends. The set is set during Buckbeak's rescue and this choice allows the designers to add numerous exclusive minifigures such as the Executioner, the Minister of Magic and the hippogriff himself. It is a pity that the three boys (Harry and co) are in "casual" clothes and not with the uniform of the castle. The cabin is identical to the one seen in the third film in the series "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" including the pumpkins in front of the entrance. The interior of the hut, however small, is well characterized with pots, candles, spoons and Hagrid's mythical pink umbrella. The number of pieces does not make you cry for a miracle, but the playability of the set is still very good.

75953 - Hogwarts Sycamore Tree

Not only does the set recreate Harry and Ron's iconic flying car scene versus the Sycamore Sycamore, it also offers a nice segment of Hogwarts Castle and its interior. Compared to Hagrid's hut for just ten euros more you will have many more bricks in your hands and the satisfaction of being building a beautiful piece of the castle's wall. The set as a whole contains the Whomping Willow tree, the flying Ford Anglia (blue) and a section of Hogwarts Castle. The Whomping Willow is equipped with rotating branches and the entrance to the tunnel of the Shrieking Shack. The problem with the plane tree is that it looks a bit squat and has almost no leaves. It actually looks like the one seen in the movie… but that doesn't make its design any more attractive! The section of the Hogwarts castle features a gate, walkways along the parapet, three turrets, a dormitory with two beds, the potions classroom with worktop and Severus Snape's office. The minifigures present are plentiful including Seamus Finnigan, Argus Gazza (with a beautiful "hair") and Severus Snape.

75954 - The great hall of Hogwarts

We appreciated the idea of LEGO to recreate the castle in its main rooms divided into different boxes. After all, the proposal allows true enthusiasts to buy and assemble a large castle, to others it offers medium-large sets with a not exaggerated cost. The Hogwards Great Hall is a must-have set in your collection, not only for the excellent design but for the minifigures included (10!): Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger (obviously), Draco Malfoy, Susan Hossas ( exclusively!), Professor McGonagall, Professor Raptor, Hagrid, Albus Dumbledore, Nearly Headless Nick, plus the buildable creatures of the Basilisk and Fanny, to conveniently recreate scenes from the first two films of the saga. The great room has an excellent design thanks to the hinged windows that make it very bright, the spaciousness and the possibility of seating students at the tables. The three-level tower, on the other hand, does not offer much space to play and is more of an exhibition element. The second floor of the tower, for example, is not very detailed and a bit bare. In our opinion, if you can buy one and only one Harry Potter set this is the one that deserves the purchase: it offers the right compromise between construction experience, quantity (and usefulness) of the minifigures and playability of the spaces.

The large hall of Hogwards (75954) - € 99.99 - 878 pzs

Overall: 8 Minis: 9 Design: 8 Prices / price: 6 "Woosh factor": 2 Investment: alone 7, with the tower of the clock 9 Available for purchase at: LEGO store | Amazon

75948 - The Hogwarts Clock Tower

The set in this box, the clock tower, recreates one of the most famous scenes from the "Goblet of Fire": the Yule Ball. The set is characterized by the mechanism that rotates the dance floor and the clock hands. It also includes 8 minifigures: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Fleur Delacour, Cedric Diggory, Viktor Krum, Albus Dumbledore and Madame Maxime. In addition, the Christmas atmosphere and the ice sculptures make this set "magical". Compared to the great hall, the rooms made available in the two towers of which the structure is composed make the gameplay better, even if the minifigs are more specific and less suitable for recreating the scenes of the films (Ballo dei Ceppi apart of course). The rooms are well furnished and allow you to recreate the defense classroom against the dark arts, the hospital, the Prefects' bathroom and Dumbledore's office. Dumbledore's office is particularly beautiful and detailed. Of the two sets (this and the Great Hall) we consider the Clock Tower the one with the most captivating and original design, although we recommend the purchase of the Great Hall for children for the game options. Having both will increase their value if you want to resell them on the secondary collectors market in a few years.

Hogwarts Clock Tower (75948) - € 99.99 - 922 pzs

71043 - Hogwarts Castle

The imposing and beautiful Hogwarts Castle is a set for adults (recommended if you are 16 or older) made up of six thousand pieces, out of scale compared to the minifigures but perfect as an element exhibition. In the huge box there are also four exclusive minifigures, that is, the founders of the castle: Godric Grinfodoro, Tosca Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin and Priscilla Ravenclaw. However, the set also contains 27 micro characters including 5 dementors, the acromantula aragog, the basilisk and the Hungarian Spined. In short, between the perfect design, the constructive challenge, the added details, this is the best Hogwatrs castle in LEGO you could wish for. Many details from the films and books (including the boggart in the wardrobe) are present and the interiors populated by microscopic characters are realistic despite the chosen scale. Building this set means reliving the topical moments of the Harry Potter books and being surprised by the designers' acumen and the chosen assembly strategies. Architecturally, the resulting castle is the best you could wish for if you are an adult fan of the series and LEGO bricks. Over time this set (already rare today) will acquire great value in the secondary market.
