The 3D printing of ICON for colonies on the Moon and Mars
It is neither a mystery nor a novelty that advances in 3D printing are of fundamental importance in order to develop the technologies necessary to bring mankind to the Moon and Mars. Yet another confirmation comes from NASA with the official statement relating to a collaboration whose purpose is precisely to develop a system for the construction of housing modules, laboratories and structures hundreds of thousands if not millions of kilometers from Earth.

We will live on the Moon and on Mars thanks to 3D printing

The partnership signed is with ICON, a Texas company based in Austin specializing in the building and construction sector. It is part of the Artemis program and takes the form of a concept that will allow astronauts to live and move outside our planet by conducting studies, explorations and experiments. The goal is to create a technology capable of using the material available on site for the creation of the modules that will then be assembled.

These are the words of Niki Werkheiser, head of Game Changing Development initiative put in place by NASA for this purpose, which underlines the importance of investing today in research and development with a far-sighted perspective that takes into account the next frontiers of space exploration.

To obtain success in our future missions we must invest today in new and advanced technologies. Research and development in the short term will help us expand our capabilities to build on other worlds when the time comes.
