Ubuntu 20.10 now available, here are the news
Ubuntu 20.10, codenamed “Groovy Gorilla”, has finally been launched and for the first time a version for the Raspberry Pi has been available since Day One on the official product page. Ubuntu 20.10 is the latest iteration of the popular operating system, and as such comes with the latest Gnome kernel and updates, further refining the 04/20 LTS (Long Term Support) version released in April 2020. Ubuntu 04 / 20 saw the arrival of a version for the Raspberry Pi sometime after the release of the main version, but by 10/20 the team has committed to making the main version and the Raspberry Pi edition available at the same time.

The biggest difference between 20.10 and previous versions for Raspberry Pi is that this is not a server image with a desktop environment added later, for example Martin Wimpress's Desktopify project. Ubuntu 20.10 for Raspberry Pi was created as a complete desktop image. In the early days of the Pi, Ubuntu was considered the default operating system, like Fedora, but ultimately both lost to Raspbian (officially shipped as the Raspberry Pi operating system).
