Jony Ive and his LoveFrom for the future of Airbnb

Jony Ive and his LoveFrom for the future of Airbnb
About a year after the farewell to Apple, the one who helped define the appearance of the most famous products of the bitten apple embarks on a new adventure: Jony Ive and the team of his newborn LoveFrom will be at the service of Airbnb with the goal of defining the future of the platform together.

Airbnb chooses Jony Ive (formerly Apple) to renew itself

This was announced by the CEO and co-founder Brian Chesky with an intervention that opens by underlining how the concept of design is important for society (the reference is to Joe Gebbia, the other co-founder): "Joe and I studied design together at the Rhode Island School of Design and we were taught how to design it's more than the appearance of something, basically how that something works. ”

It is not entirely clear how the collaboration will concretely take shape: we doubt that Airbnb will start making devices or software for the market. The company deals with homes and Ive's passion for architecture (in his recent years at Apple he helped define the look of the new campus in Cupertino and the physical stores) could be useful in this area.

Today I am thrilled to announce that Jony and his LoveFrom partners will be involved in a special partnership with me and the Airbnb team. We made the decision to work together through a multi-year partnership to design the next generation of Airbnb's products and services.

In this difficult 2020, Airbnb's business has first seen contracting due to the health crisis, then re-explode once travel and travel are given the green light. Nonetheless, the planned IPO has been postponed and 1,900 employees have been laid off.
