Neil Gaiman: Sandman, construction starts again - DC FanDome
Sandman is perhaps one of the few comics to have escaped Hollywood so far although this surreal series, by Neil Gaiman, has made its mark on pop culture since its release in 1989. However, it seems that the author is preparing to resume work on his first live-action adaptation, which will be produced by Netflix.

Neil Gaiman spoke about it during the DC FanDome with a panel moderated by Yvette Nicole Brown. The panel also featured director Dirk Maggs, writer G. Willow Wilson (Dreaming: Waking Hours) and Sandman audiobook star Michael Sheen, who, by his own admission, voices Lucifer as if was played by David Bowie. Rumors claiming Netflix's Sandman will become a TV series have therefore become official. The graphic novel series will have an adaptation that will be, according to Neil Gaiman, a "little more relaxed". How will this TV adaptation be different from the audio adaptation? According to Gaiman, the Netflix adaptation will be a bit more free and will be set as if the author had written the graphic novels in the present day and that the story will be set in a later era than that described in the original era.
