Will TikTok stop working after the US ban?
Somewhat surprisingly, yesterday the US Department of Commerce announced that TikTok will no longer be available for download for American users. A ban in effect that will materialize with the disappearance of the app from the Play Store and App Store as well as from other platforms dedicated to the distribution of software on mobile devices.

TikTok will not stop working, at least for now

What will it mean for users? The social network will continue to be accessible globally, at least for the moment. However, the Chinese parent company ByteDance will no longer be able to distribute updates through the official channels managed by Google and Apple. In the rest of the world, including Europe and consequently in Italy, there will be no changes either in terms of installation or updates. The platform will be online and operational as usual.

The restrictive measure imposed by the US (which also affects WeChat by Tencent) will not affect in any way the traffic generated to and from TikTok. At least until November 12: this is the new date to be circled in red on the calendar, the deadline for finding an agreement deemed satisfactory by the overseas authorities in order to avoid a definitive ban. The proposal regarding the agreement found with Oracle for a partnership, which would have made the Redwood company a Trusted Technology Provider of TikTok, was not considered satisfactory.
