Shenmue becomes an anime for Crunchyroll
At the Crunchyroll Expo, late yesterday, the popular streaming platform dedicated to anime and animation confirmed that it is working on the anime adaptation of the popular video game series Shenmue, developed by Yu Suzuki for SEGA, in collaboration with Adult Swim.

The anime will have 13 episodes but for the moment no release date has been provided. The collaboration between Crunchyroll and Adult Swim sees two more titles in the works: Fena - Pirate Princess and Blade Runner - Black Lotus.

Shenmue

Imagined as a video game trilogy by its creator Yu Suzuki, Shenmue made its debut on Dreamcast in 1999. The second chapter always debuted for the same console in 2000 and in 2002 it landed on Xbox . For the third chapter, however, we had to wait a long time: it was released in 2019 on Playstation 4. A remastered version of the first two chapters was released in 2018 for Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

The Shenmue saga is defined a "dynamic adventure" being based on FREE (Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment): the goal of these role-playing video games is not to complete them, but to totally immerse yourself in the game environment. Some techniques used in Shenmue and Shenmue II to immerse the player in the game environment include the use of variable time during the game and non-player characters who have their own commitments in their virtual life. The weather in Shenmue is the same as it was in reality in the area and in the year the game is set.
