(image: Getty Images) At the time of the coronavirus pandemic, which has now reached 31.9 million cases worldwide, even the maps of Google Maps are growing with new services and features. Together with the indications on the turnout and the best times to visit the chosen places and the real-time alerts with updates on security restrictions and anti-Covid measures, the Mountain View giant has announced a new service that can show directly the map also displays the most up-to-date data on the cases in the area where you want to move.

This is an additional function that is located in the layer section of the Google Maps screen (top right) , and is activated by clicking on the Covid-19 info item. In this way, information on the number of new coronavirus cases found in that area out of 100 thousand people will also be displayed on the open map, as well as an indication showing whether registered cases are increasing or not based on the information available to national level.

As the area of interest shrinks, then, the information is gradually shown at a national, regional, provincial level up to that relating to individual cities, with coverage of the more than 220 states registered by the Google Maps service.

The information used by the service comes from institutions and accredited sources that already disseminate data on the progress of the pandemic at a global level, such as the World Health Organization, the ministries of health of various countries, hospitals , as well as other health institutions or national and local bodies, so as to be able to provide increasingly precise and updated data in real time. At the moment the release in Italy still does not seem to be complete, so many people are still unable to see this new feature.
