Google Maps begins to report traffic lights as well

The diffusion of the new Google maps function starts, to give more sources of reference and information for travelers

Icons indicating the position of a traffic light may appear on the Google Maps route (photo: Google Maps ) Google Maps began testing the new feature at the beginning of July that will report traffic lights on a route. And with the latest update of the application, the gradual dissemination of this novelty began. The function will be activated automatically without having to look for it in the settings and will show an icon depicting a traffic light on its path exactly as it already happens in Apple Maps.

Although the functionality test began in the first weeks of July , more and more users of Google Maps have seen the traffic light icon appear on their routes (both during viewing and navigation). The icons appear at the intersections and grow larger as they adapt to the size and dimensions of the map. The voice assistant still does not recognize them as points of interest, therefore the indications provided indicate the direction by taking the intersection as a reference and not the traffic light. The traffic light icon can also help to understand the origin of the delays (indicated in orange or red).

If at the beginning of July the function was reported only by users in the United States, with the recent updates Users from other countries in the world, including Italy, will be able to start seeing icons appear. Being still in the testing phase, Google has not communicated how quickly the diffusion of the new function will take place.
