Data Transfer Project and news for Google Takeout
The Mountain View group has released a couple of statistics regarding Takeout, the service that allows users to export their information and content from over 70 services managed by Google: the operation is performed on average over two million times every month and in 2019 the processed files exceeded 200 billion.

Takeout and data control: news for Google Photos

Staying on the subject, in these days the functionality improves with the inclusion of more granular controls that allow for example to save or transfer a single album from Photos rather than the entire library. It will thus be possible to move it to a competing platform, such as Flickr or OneDrive, without forcing the user to download the archive and upload it elsewhere, a practice that where a connection with good performance is not available would be long if not sometimes impossible. br>
It is one of the benefits linked to the Data Transfer Project, an initiative announced in 2018 by Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter for this very purpose. Last year, Apple also joined the group.

Data management methods are of crucial importance not only to ensure users have full control over the information concerning them, but also to ensure full respect for privacy. Regulating them in the old continent is the GDPR, a legislation with more than two years after its introduction. It is in this context that the game of platforms is played, from TikTok to Facebook, whose fate seems to be closely linked to issues of a primarily territorial nature.
