The United States is running out of names for hurricanes

2020 is proving to be a particularly tragic year for the number of hurricanes hitting America: there have already been 20, and another 15 are expected in the coming months. Many more than those on the list of names compiled by meteorologists

As every year, in fact, a list of 21 proper names with which to call these atmospheric phenomena is drawn up by the World Meteorological Organization, but in 2020 the hurricane season is proving particularly intense and, even if we are only in September, 20 names list have already been used. Colorado State University - which has always carried out very in-depth studies in the field of forecasting extreme weather phenomena - stated that 24 storms are expected in the coming months, which in 15 cases could turn into hurricanes. Therefore, before the end of the season (in November), it is very likely that we will have to resort to the letters of the Greek alphabet to solve the problem. There is only one precedent, and it dates back to 2005, the year of Hurricane Katrina, which also saw the passage of Rita and Wilma.
