PC games: Italian is increasingly irrelevant, Steam reveals the data
Video games are a form of entertainment that can overcome barriers and connect players around the world. We could almost say that they speak a universal language, which reaches every enthusiast. However, players don't speak all languages. Each nation requires its own translation and, according to the latest Steam data, Italian is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

Like every month, Steam has in fact organized a survey to collect information on the hardware and software components of the computers of customers using the platform. The most recent data, obviously partial but based on a large sample, state that Italian is used only by 0.75% of Steam users.

Where does it rank in the overall ranking? Fourteenth. But let's look at the data more precisely.

First of all, we believe we do not surprise anyone by stating that the Top 3 languages most used by Steam players are:

English: 39.54% (variation of - 2.35%) Simplified Chinese: 19.41% (variation of + 1.90%) Russian: 11.29% (variation of 0.16%) We also remember that Steam has a version dedicated to China, separate from the international version, therefore the amount of users in Chinese is much higher. However, based on international data, we can see that 0.75% of Italian is surpassed by Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (Brazil), German, French, Korean and also Polish, Turkish, Japanese, traditional Chinese and Thai.

Italian is able to surpass Portuguese (Portugal), Czech, Swedish, Danish, Greek, Finnish and various other European languages. However, it is clear that the "commercial value" of our language is not at its best. There is not too much to be surprised about, therefore, if some publishers prefer not to propose the Italian translation, at least not immediately (as in the case of Baldur's Gate 3).
