Cadastral maps for everyone, even for commercial uses

Cadastral maps for everyone, even for commercial uses
The announcement comes from the Revenue Agency: operators and citizens can now freely consult the cadastral cartography available to the Revenue Agency, also to create services or applications. An additional tool which, by making information available to all, makes it a collective asset on which to build new utilities. "Thanks to a new user license", explains the Agency, "it will therefore be possible to use the cadastral maps by integrating them with other information and to distribute the materials produced, even for commercial purposes, as long as the source is always cited".

Free cadastre

This novelty should open cadastral cartography to a greater number of uses: local taxation, territorial government, urban planning, property valuation, emergency management and much more.

Two access services are available:

Web Map Service (WMS): international standard service, “with which it is possible to create dynamic maps that integrate the cadastral cartography with any other geographical data“; Cadastral Cartographic Geoportal, which allows the precise search of a particle through its identification details. 85 million parcels, 18 million buildings, 300 thousand cadastral maps: these are the numbers of a wealth that the Revenue Agency makes available to individuals and professionals, or in any case to anyone who wants to build new value in terms of knowledge and planning . All with a not insignificant clarification: this is constantly updated information.

The information that can be acquired via WMS and Geoportal is updated in real time with the technical documents transmitted electronically by the freelancers: every day about 1,500 geometric updating documents are recorded in the cadastral archives that move about 3,000 cadastral parcels, whose data can be freely consulted through the online services, a few hours after the update.

Use is explicitly open also to commercial use, without any further prohibition. In short, those who have new ideas now also have new raw materials on which to work.
