The Italian Basketball Federation will take part in FIBA ​​Esports Open 2020 from 19 to 21 June, the first esports event for national teams organized by FIBA, the International Federation.

"It is a pilot event, but certainly historic. FIP has decided to participate in FIBA ​​Esport Open 2020, the first edition of e-basketball organized by the international federation, to be the protagonist of a phenomenon that is growing and expanding worldwide and on which the Olympic movement is also reflecting -ha explained Giovanni Petrucci, president of FIP. "A new national team, the twentieth for FIP which, even if in the context of competitive sports video games, will be characterized by the same ethical commitment to wear the blue shirt, with respect for its opponents and rules, and from the same desire to win. It is a first step on a path that we imagine long and full of social and competitive satisfactions and which will allow us to open another channel of communication with basketball fans and with the youngest in particular ".

I am 17 national teams participating in FIBA ​​Esports Open 2020. The teams are divided into five conferences based on their geographical membership Italy is part of the European Conference with Russia, Latvia, Austria, Lithuania, Ukraine, Spain, Switzerland and Cyprus .

The formula includes an Italian group with one-way matches. The team with the most victories wins the Conference. The other Conferences are: Oceania (Australia, New Zealand), South America (Brazil and Argentina ), South-East (Indonesia, Philippines), Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Lebanon).

Each team will consist of seven players, five on the pitch and two reserves, who will play remotely on NBA 2K using the Pro-AM mode.

The debut for our eNazionale is expected on Friday, 19 June at 14:55 against Russia , then Italy is again in the field at 15:35 against Latvia .

Sunday the 21st , the final day, with Spain (14:05), Switzerland (14:55) and Cyprus (17:05) The entire event will be produced by FIBA Esports Studio (which is based in Riga, Latvia), with four consecutive hours of transmission, that will cover six races in the day.

The races will be broadcast in streaming on the channels, Facebook , Twitch and YouTube of the FIBA and Facebook of the FIP .



The matches will be commented by the former blue Andrea Pecile (all three days), by Simone Trimarchi , caster, commentator of video games, already champion of Italy of Starcraft (Friday and Saturday) and Giancarlo Migliola of the Press Office, FIP (Sunday's race).
