The French authorities have dismantled a huge black market of the dark web

The French customs police have taken offline the third black market on the dark web since 2018. Le Monde Parallèle was born in 2020 and mainly traded forged documents, weapons, drugs and credit cards

Notice from the French police shown after the seizure of Le Monde Parallèle (image: Twitter) The French authorities have seized an important hub of illegal activities on the dark web, a market known as Le Monde Parallèle. It is the third French platform that is seized by the French police after Black Hand, closed in 2018, and French Deep Web Market, closed in 2019.

The end of Le Monde Parallèle was the result of a long operation, lasting several months and conducted by the Direction Nationale du Renseignement et des Enquêtes Douanières (Dnred). The black market on the dark web was quite young as it started its business in early 2020. Here its sellers made all kinds of illegal products and services available to buyers including stolen credit card data, drugs, fake IDs and weapons.

As often happens, the cybercriminals who ran the black market had also available to their customers a support forum which, like the market, had thousands of registered users at the time of the seizure.

French law enforcement officers arrested two platform administrators and seized numerous fake documents, credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards and several thousand euros in cryptocurrency, as well as the computer equipment and data contained therein .

The French economy minister, Bruno Le Maire, congratulated the more than 30 customs officials (operational, analysts and IT specialists) who took an active part in the operation. "By putting an end to the operation of the Le Monde Parallèle site, customs are continuing the government's commitment to combat all forms of crime including cyber crime that harms the French and the legal economy," commented Le Maire.
