Sierra On-Line: Ken and Roberta Williams are creating a new mystery game

Sierra On-Line

Anyone who has a few (too many) springs on their shoulders has surely heard of Ken and Roberta Williams. At the dawn of the industry, the couple were two of the most influential figures in the world of video games, being those who created the graphic adventures and with being one of the most important studios of the time: Sierra On-Line. Despite being long retired, YouTuber Space Quest Historian, who specializes in Sierra's games, said that Ken and Roberta Williams have been working on a mysterious new video game for about 6 months.

The two are legends were inactive for over twenty years after their company, Sierra Entertainment (also known as Sierra On-Line, Inc.), closed in 2002. Notwithstanding that the two had left their position years earlier. >
Williams and Sierra are known for classic series such as King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Gabriel Knight, Leisure Suit Larry and Quest for Glory. As we said, they are the ones who created the graphic adventure genre (which later made LucasFilm great too) and for this reason they are much loved by fans.

Knowing that they are working on a new subject should, therefore, make everyone happy. Space Quest Historian got in touch with Ken Williams and he would have confirmed the rumors, indeed more. For example, the Williams will start looking for beta testers in July or August, after only six months of development. At this point the game may be out before the end of the year, but it could also be that Ken Williams is a little too optimistic.

At the moment, in fact, the works are on the high seas, so much so that they will start talking about the game in a month or two. But Ken Williams doesn't want to unbutton too much, because he thinks that because of the announcement "someone will convince me to take screenshots, a playable demo and ... we're not ready for that yet". What he shared is that the game is single-player and that he believes in a "crawl walk run" strategy, so their first game is their first dive into the water, as it is described as "something simple enough to to start". It's also described as "totally Sierra-style", which I'm sure any Sierra fan from the past will be over the moon hearing about it. Ken Williams is planning the game and is the boss, while Roberta Williams gives the art direction and inspiration. They are also working with at least one other person on the project.

Ken & Roberta Williams Are Making a New Game

YouTuber Space Quest Historian has announced that Ken & Roberta Williams, 'the retired founders of Sierra On-Line, have been secretly working on a new game for the past 6 months.' The two are legends in the gaming industry, but have been inactive for over twenty years after their company, Sierra Entertainment (also known as Sierra On-Line, Inc.), was shut down in 2002, although they had left several years prior after an acquisition.

The Williams' and their company were known for classic series such as King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Gabriel Knight, Leisure Suit Larry, and Quest for Glory. They created the graphic adventure genre and are beloved by many and left a huge impact on gaming as we know it, so even for someone like me who wasn't around in their heyday this is exciting news.

Basically, Space Quest Historian was hooked up with Ken Williams to break the news, and he had a lot to share. For instance, they'll be starting to look for beta testers in July or August, which is interesting considering the game has only been in development for the past six months. He's also thinking that the game will come out before the end of the year, but that might also be the case of Ken Williams being too optimistic.

They'll talk more about the game in a month or two, but right now Ken Williams doesn't want to talk too much about it, as he thinks that 'someone will talk me into screenshots, a playable demo .. and .. we're just not ready for that yet.'

What he did share is that the game is single-player and that he believes in a crawl walk run strategy, so their first game is them dipping their toes back in the water, as it's described as 'something fairly simple to start with'. It's also described as 'totally Sierra flavor', which I'm sure any Sierra fan from back in the day will be over the moon to hear. Ken Williams is programming the game and is the boss while Roberta Williams gives art direction and inspiration. They are working with at least one additional person on the project as well.
