Lucky Luke, the character

Lucky Luke, a humorous western comic series considered a classic of Franco-Belgian comics, was created in 1946 by Morris. The first episodes were made entirely by Morris who was then joined from 1955 to the texts by René Goscinny. From their collaboration, some of the best stories of the character will originate, even publishing three books a year. Their collaboration ended in 1977 with the death of Goscinny.

From 1977 the screenplays will be entrusted to several new authors such as the comedian Laurent Gerra and the novelist Daniel Pennac. After Morris's death in 2001 (who drew all the stories published in volume up to 2002) the character of Lucky Luke was brought forward by Achdé on texts by Laurent Gerra and writer Daniel Pennac.

From the comic series have been drawn television series and feature films, both animated and live, the very famous one directed and starring Terence Hill at the beginning of the 90s. It has been hugely successful both at home and around the world, selling around 250 million volumes of the comic series. The name of the character is inspired by that of Luciano Locarno, a sheriff of Italian origin who lived between 1860 and 1940.
