Cyberpunk 2077: Metacritic is the main reason for its postponement
The developers had promised us that it would no longer happen, the gold phase in which the game had entered was almost a certainty, but this 2020 is unpredictable, which is why Cyberpunk 2077 has been postponed again. It is the third time the game has been postponed, a choice that has raised the disappointment of the public. This time we will have to wait three weeks to play the title. It is legitimate to ask the reason for this announcement, precisely in light of the fact that CD Projekt RED is firmly convinced that it has made the right choice, explaining it in a recent conference call. From what has emerged, the developers have declared that they want to pass the 90 mark on Metacritic and in their opinion it would have been possible only by delaying the release of the game, again.

Based on what is said, it also seems that CD Projekt RED is dissatisfied with how Cyberpunk 2077 runs on current-gen and is taking the extra time to ensure these issues are resolved before launch. " Regarding Metacritic's expectations, we believe that the 21-day shift shouldn't change anything, ”said Adam Kicinski, CEO of CDPR. “It just shifts the sales and we really focus on the long-term perspective on sales. This is guaranteed by quality and nothing else is important, so having better quality and better initial reaction to the game always works in favor of sales; that's why we decided to postpone it ”he concludes.

Michal Nowakowski, VP of Business Development, also spoke on the matter, confirming that this is one of the main reasons for the recent delay. “When it comes to Metacritic, we're constantly aiming for a game that goes above 90, so even then it doesn't change; this remains the goal and, as Adam said, this is actually the main reason for postponing the launch. We want to give the game an extra touch, ”says Nowakowski. Furthermore, as mentioned, the goal of CD Projekt RED following the postponement of Cyberpunk 2077, is to take more time to make sure that the game is optimized to work best on each of the 9 platforms in which it will be launched. Apparently, in fact, it seems that the game works well on PC and next generation consoles, but the PS4 and Xbox One versions are still to be perfected.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on December 10th for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia, with versions dedicated to the next-gen that will be launched later. Will CD Projekt RED succeed in its intent? Only time will confirm this, considering that in addition to criticism from the disgruntled public, CDPR also has to deal with the news of crunch in the studio, as reports have emerged that showed that the working hours of some of its employees amounted to 100. Not to mention that CD Projekt RED also missed the train for The Game Awards 2020 with the postponement of Cyberpunk 2077.
