Starfield: Insider explains, RPG is coming exclusively to PC and Xbox

Starfield

Will you be able to play Bethesda's space role-playing game Starfield on the Playstation? Probably not. At least that explains the industry insider Jeff Grubb, who seems to be very certain with his statement.

Apparently no Starfield on the Playstation

"Starfield is an exclusive title for Xbox and PC. Period "I hereby confirm that," said journalist Jeff Grubb on Twitter. He has very good contacts in the industry, which is why his statement can be taken seriously. It is unclear whether it is a temporal exclusivity or whether Starfield (buy now) does not appear on the Playstation at all. That depends on negotiations between Microsoft and Sony. At least for the release of the game you shouldn't expect a launch on PS4 and PS5.

Grubb said that in the recent past he had doubts as to whether his information regarding Xbox and PC exclusivity was correct. Therefore, he once again obtained confirmation from his sources. So he came to the statement that Starfield only appears for PC and Xbox. Youtuber Rand al Thor also said a few weeks ago that we will not see the role-playing game on the Playstation. So there are some indications that this is actually the case.

The official confirmation from Bethesda and Microsoft is still missing. Players hope that Starfield will be officially launched at E3 and that the space role-playing game will be released later this year. But that is not certain, as the ongoing Corona crisis is causing delays in the development of games and these could also affect Starfield.

Report: Bethesda’s Starfield Is Xbox Exclusive, If That Was Still A Question

Starfield

Bethesda

Ever since it was announced that Microsoft was buying Bethesda, the fate of the publisher’s vast catalogue became unclear. Was Microsoft pulling all Bethesda games off rival platforms (namely Sony) in the future, or would it still publish games there? The only thing they said was that it would be on a “case by case” basis, but fundamentally, you do not pay $7.5 billion for a publisher and not get big exclusives out of it.

Industry insider and journalist Jeff Grubb caused a stir last night when he just said what everyone was thinking. He says that he can confirm that Starfield, Bethesda’s next big sci-fi game, will be Xbox exclusive. Though these days “Xbox exclusive” means it will also be available on Xbox Cloud Gaming and PC. Xbox exclusive pretty much just means…not on PlayStation (Nintendo Switch likely can’t run Starfield anyway).

The running theory is that Bethesda will make a big splash at Microsoft’s E3 show in June, and that should mark the first true reveal of Starfield and confirm what Grubb is saying here, that it will be Xbox exclusive.

Further rumors say that Starfield could be out as soon as this fall, and that Bethesda has purposefully kept it under wraps until right near release to avoid “Cyberpunk syndrome.” Personally, I’d be surprised. Microsoft already has Halo Infinite launching this fall as a big flagship (if it’s not delayed again) and Starfield strikes me as more of a 2022 venture. But I’d love to be surprised and see it sooner (so long as it doesn’t launch full of massive bugs).

Fallout 76

Bethesda

Starfield is the birth of a brand new IP for Bethesda which will join its other pillars of Fallout and Elder Scrolls. The Elder Scrolls 6 has already been announced, but it was made clear that Starfield was the priority to be released first. Fallout is likely going to stick with 76 updates indefinitely as a true sequel is likely not in the cards until after ES6, if then. Maybe Starfield takes over Fallout on the sci-fi front.

The idea of Starfield being Xbox exclusive has caused all manner of debates in the industry. There’s the idea that all Microsoft buying Bethesda has done is take games away that would have been multiplatform had that deal not been made. Though rumor has it that Sony was trying to bid on Starfield itself to lock it down as at least a timed exclusive for PlayStation, like they did with Bethesda’s Deathloop.

This great exclusivity war is nowhere near over. Microsoft has signaled that they will continue to buy more studios and allegedly will target a Japanese developer next. Sony is just…utilizing all the very good studios it already has, and producing actual, not theoretical, great games even early in this console generation. So it’s an intense race.

We’ll see what happens with Starfield going forward, but yes, I absolutely believe it will be Xbox exclusive too, and these recent reports only serve to reinforce that pretty obvious notion.
