Instagram will insert automatic subtitles in Stories and on Igtv

A sticker capable of automatically generating the text of what is said in the video is the novelty introduced in the Stories and on Igtv of Instagram. The subtitles - obviously not very precise - can be corrected with a revision tool

For the moment, the news will only be available in English-speaking countries, but Instagram has made it known that self-generated subtitles will soon be distributed in all other countries, covering other languages as well.

Also with a view to greater accessibility, the social network intends to start testing subtitles automatic even within the Reels.

As with the sticker that shows the lyrics of the songs in the Stories, also for the automatically generated subtitles the user can adjust the style and color of the text. Users in the editing phase of the story will also be able to correct the words that the Instagram AI has misinterpreted or incorrectly transcribed. They will be able to intervene on punctuation and correct the spelling of the sentence in order to make the subtitle as accurate as possible.

Like all automatically generated subtitles, even those of Instagram are not very precise and therefore the editing tool becomes indispensable to make changes.

For the moment, in addition to changing the color of the text, there is no way to increase the contrast of the text on the video in the background, thus risking that the subtitles may be confused with the colors in the background.

Instagram isn't the only one thinking about adding subtitles to its products: TikTok already launched the same feature last month while Twitter is preparing subtitles for its Audio Spaces.
