Forbidden Lands: a Kickstarter to launch two manuals not to be missed.

Forbidden Lands

The Swedish publishing house Free League Publishing has recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on the Kickstarter platform for the creation of two new manuals for the editorial line of the award-winning and fantasy role-playing game Forbidden Lands.

The project has already achieved an extraordinary success, having been fully funded in just eight hours and having largely exceeded the threshold envisaged for its realization, indicating how much Forbidden Lands is a role-playing game particularly appreciated by the public.

There are two manuals of expansion contained in this Kickstarter:

Forbidden Lands: Book of Beasts, a beautifully illustrated bestiary filled to the brim with murderous monsters and deadly encounters. Forbidden Lands: The Bloodmarch, a manual that expands the game world and includes a complete campaign: Legacy of Horn.

The Kickstarter campaign will end in twelve days and can be reached at this link. Our advice is not to miss these two splendid manuals, which we will quickly illustrate below.

Forbidden Lands: Book of Beasts

Forbidden Lands: Book of Beasts is a bestiary that can be played with immediately. It will feature at least twenty-five new monsters in great detail, plus additional bonus monsters such as stretch goals, most of which have already been unlocked. Each beast is ready toa> play with tailor-made random encounters, and the manual will present Game Masters with a handy set of mini-adventures to use.

The book will also include legends about each monster, introduce optional rules for harvesting resources from slain beasts, and allow players to use their Lore skill to gain insight into a monster's strengths and weaknesses. This will help the characters defeat, or at least survive, an encounter with the book's monstrosities. Among the monsters in this manual, creatures such as the Amphibian, the Basilisk, The Iron Dragon, the Corrupted Ent and many others will make their presence, ready for use in any Forbidden Lands campaign.

Forbidden Lands: Book of Beasts is written by experienced game writer Andreas Marklund and acclaimed Swedish fantasy author Erik Granström (whose interview you can read about), illustrated by Henrik Rosenborg and with graphics by Niklas Brandt.

Forbidden Lands: The Bloodmarch

With this expansion manual, Forbidden Lands will get even stranger. Bloodmarch is the name given to the volcanic region west of Ravenland, accessible since the Shadowgate Pass was reopened. This ancient land of battle-ready knights and elusive Dwarves is rapidly changing due to the demonic vegetation that is spreading throughout the region. Most see this red curse as a threat to all that is good, while others see it as a good thing, or at least a bad thing necessary to achieve other goals.

Players will be able to choose from which side to be, or not give a damn about everyone and only look after themselves, during the Legacy of Horn campaign. This campaign will put explorers on the hunt for Horn's Astra, a legendary set of artifacts sought by many in the land of ashes. These powerful items are said to be capable of stopping demonic growth or are powerful enough to ensure their triumph.

Forbidden Lands: The Bloodmarch and The Legacy of Horn campaign contained therein are written by the acclaimed fantasy author Swedish Erik Granström (whose interview you can read), lead author of the settings for the role-playing game Forbidden Lands and designer of the game's first campaign module, Raven's Purge. Bloodmarch is illustrated by Henrik Rosenborg.

Twenty-five monsters are included as part of the book but more are getting added as Stretch Goals get unlocked as part of the campaign. This really does look like a fantastic piece for those who want to expand on their options for Forbidden Lands. It always pays to have more tricks to pull on an adventuring party when they are deep in the wilds.

The Bloodmarch

The next of the books is a campaign focused one called The Bloodmarch.

Within this book, you'll find an in-depth campaign called Legacy Of Horn that expands on the game world of Forbidden Lands. A demonic scourge is infesting the land and it is now up to you to try and work out how to stop it. You will need to collect together the artefacts of Horn´s Astra and use them to deal with the blight.

Much like with previous expansions, The Bloodmarch comes with an entirely new section of map for you to explore. Due to the nature of exploration and adventure in Forbidden Lands, this should become a unique piece just for your group. It looks deadly, dangerous and an exceptionally fun place for a roleplaying game to be set.
