Blue Lock, the manga spokon phenomenon of the moment written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro (As the Gods Will, Jagan) and drawn by Yusuke Nomura (Dolly Kill Kill), will receive an anime by the 8-Bit studio in 2022 and in the last hours have been popular key visuals, trailers, character designs and other information that we discover gradually.

that the announcement had been expected for a few days now considering the confirmation arrived a short time ago, and now, finally, here it is.

Let's talk with the key visual and the first sequences through the trailer released by the official YouTube channel of the Bandai distributor:



Character designs of prominent characters have been revealed - Meguru Bachira (voiced by Tasuku Kaito), Yoichi Isagi (voiced by Kazuki Ura), Rensuke Kunigami (voiced by Yuki Ono) and Hyoma Chigiri (voiced by Soma Saito) - curated by Masaru Shindo, Kenji Tanabe and Kento Toya. Among the main staff we have Tetsuaki Watanabe (Powerful Pro Yakyuu Powerful Koko-hen) managing the project at 8-Bit with Shunsuke Ishikawa in role of assistant director. Taku Kishimoto (Haikyu !!, Silver Spoon, Fruit Basket) writes the script and the manga writer himself, Muneyuki Kaneshiro, oversees the story. Masaru Shindo (Fruit Basket, Macross Delta, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU), Kenji Tanabe and Kento Toya are character designers and head of animation. Hisahi Tojima supports the animation work and Hiromi Sakamoto directs the action scenes. Jun Murayama composes the music.

Blue Lock: what is it about?

This is the football manga spokon of the moment, as well as winner of the Kodansha Manga Awards 2021, after having registered in May 2021, as reported in our previous article, a milestone of 4 million copies in circulation worldwide.

The Blue Lock sports manga series, written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yuusuke Nomura, has been serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine since August 2018 and currently 141 chapters have been published. In Japan, 14 tankobons have been launched in comics and online stores at the moment.

    Blue Lock Anime Announced

    Recently, the official website for Blue Lock confirmed that the anime adaptation is in production and is scheduled to release sometime in 2022.


    The announcement stated that Eight Bit animation studio is taking on this project under the direction of Tetsuaki Watanabe. It’s the same animation studio that has given us That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.


    Interestingly, the first teaser visual of Blue Lock anime is also out. You can see all the main characters in the key visual:


    Besides the new key visual, the creators also released a 1 minute 18 seconds long trailer for the anime. Honestly, every frame of the first trailer looks like art, and that’s enough to get us excited for the anime. The trailer flaunts some characters showcasing their skills on the soccer field.

    Finally, Eight Bit animation studio also revealed the cast of the upcoming anime adaptation:

  • We still don’t have an exact release date for the anime, but after several leaks and rumors, it’s now finally official that we’ll get the Blue Lock anime next year.
