Google's free VPN is available in Italy

With the 2Tb cloud plan, Google One activates the VPN for Android devices for free. Google's Virtual Private Network promises to be one of the fastest on the market. But the anonymized IP address remains from the same country of origin

Google One activates a VPN for free (image: Google) One of the new functions of Google One, Big's subscription cloud space service, also lands in Italy G. This is the Vpn for Android smartphones with which Google allows you to browse the web securely and anonymously, masking your IP address and encrypting data.

Launched at the end of 2020, Google One was available until recently only in the United States, but now the service has also been extended to Canada, Mexico, Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom. Although it is a subscription service, the free basic version is already active by default for all Google users.

The Google VPN is free for all Google One users who have activated a plan of at least 2 Tb of cloud storage space. At the moment it is not possible to add it as an option to the lower cutting plans, not even paying it separately.

The basic operation of the Google VPN is the same as other similar products on the market: once activated, this will create an encrypted connection through which all user data will pass. Should the user be the victim of a man-in-the-middle attack while browsing online, the attacker would find himself in front of a stream of encrypted and therefore illegible data.

Unlike other VPNs, however, the IP address will simply be anonymized, but it will still be an Italian address. This means that it will not be possible to visit the websites blocked in Italy or access the foreign catalogs of the streaming platforms. It is precisely for this reason that Big G has decided to simply anonymize the IP address, making it appear, however, always coming from the same country. If Google had allowed the change of country via IP address, it would inevitably have caused the ire of the streaming industry and platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Aside from that, Google's VPN promises to be a of the fastest currently in circulation. Browsing via VPN, in fact, never has the same speed as a connection without a VPN but Big G, without explaining how it gets this speed, has guaranteed that its network is able to allow a very fast connection.
