Polar Park to host equity COVID vaccine clinic in Worcester on May 25 with food, music and prizes

The Worcester Red Sox aren’t home on May 25, but the city of Worcester is still hoping for a large crowd at the new ballpark.

The city announced on Thursday that along with several collaborating partners it will be hosting an equity vaccine clinic at Polar Park on May 25 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Beyond the vaccine, food, music and prizes will be available.

Pre-registration is not required and neither are appointments. The free walk-in clinic is hosted by the city of Worcester, Centro Inc., the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, Protegete Latino Encontra del Coronavirus, the Southeast Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts, the United Way of Central Massachusetts, WORC 1310 AM, Worcester Interfaith, the Worcester Red Sox and the Worcester State University Latino Education Institute.

The city’s equity initiative focuses on prioritized communities that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19.

Those eligible as part of the initiative include Black, Indigenous, Latinx populations and any person of color. Individuals who do not speak English or prefer to speak in another language are also eligible to receive the vaccine.

Other populations who are eligible include individuals who do not have access to public transportation or have barriers getting to vaccination sites, individuals not comfortable with traditional healthcare settings, individuals with disabilities, individuals experiencing homelessness and individuals with mental illness or substance use disorder.
