Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: discovering the Paldea region

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: discovering the Paldea region

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Very little is missing from the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, the two new chapters of the iconic video game series by Game Freak. Much has been said about the many portable monsters that have already been revealed but in this special we want to analyze in more detail the Paldea region: the great open world where the new games are set.

Starting with the two legendaries , Koraidon and Miraidon, the open world approach is set to revolutionize some classic mechanics of the Pokémon world both in terms of progression and story design.

From the trailers, in fact, we have learned that there is no pre-established order in which to face the many missions of the game but a series of narrative lines that contribute to the continuation of the story.

In this special on the open world of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet we will analyze not only the new region of Mediterranean inspiration, but also all the ways in which the new approach to the design of the game world wants to make the adventure of the ninth generation even more immersive.

Paldea and Andalusia

The Paldea region of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is strongly inspired by the Iberian peninsula The main inspiration for the Paldea region is the Iberian peninsula, in particular the 'Andalusia, a region of southern Spain that mixes European and Arab architecture and with a very rich history behind it. The urban buildings and the many biomes we have seen are full of references to Spain and Portugal: the mountains covered with greenery alternate with more arid and rocky valleys and the cities are adorned with neo-Gothic spiers and brick houses. The sea, another identifying element of Iberian culture, surrounds the Paldea region and in the trailers we often see that the beaches will be important places where we will meet friends and enemies. function ready (fn) {if (document.readyState! = 'loading') {fn ()} else {document.addEventListener ('DOMContentLoaded', fn)}} ready (function () {window.addEventListener ('message', function (event) {let target_origin = 'https://aff.netaddiction.it'; if (event.origin! == target_origin) return; if (typeof event.data == "object" && event.data.hasOwnProperty ( "type") && event.data.type == "embaff") {let embed_id = event.data.embed_id; if (embed_id == '640') {document.querySelector ('#_ aff_embed_640'). setAttribute ('height ', event.data.embed_size);}}}, false);}) An overview from above and some fight scenes, then, tell us that we will also meet the typical arid soils that characterize the sunny places overlooking the Mediterranean. The seemingly dry rocks and shrubs hide, as in the real world, dozens of Pokémon that have made the hot and arid climate of these areas their natural habitat. To give a home also to portable monsters of the grass and ice type, however, mountain environments could not be missing: in some scenes, in fact, we see coniferous forests and some snowy peaks. A few frames from the latest trailer, then, could also suggest a volcanic environment, a typically Italian characteristic of the Mediterranean scrub.

The role of the legendaries

The possibility of exploring Paldea on the saddle of a Pokémon Legendary was one of the most unexpected novelties for Scarlet and Violet One of the additions that most surprised fans after the first trailers was the possibility of riding the two legendary Pokémon protagonists of the Scarlet and Violet covers. Koraidon and Miraidon will be our bicycle, our boat and our glider to move even faster through the rocky deserts and forests of the new chapters of the series. The exploration on the back of the legendaries will be slightly different than what we have known in Pokémon Legends Arceus. The flight, in particular, will be more like a glide (think Breath of the Wild) and, for the first time, we will also be able to climb vertical surfaces.

The speed of movement of Koraidon and Miraidon is considerable and allows to cover great distances in a short time. Importantly, not all of these skills will be available right away. Like the old HM system, the abilities of the two new legendaries will unlock as the story progresses to allow us to reach new areas or inaccessible places. As in the chapters of the past, therefore, it will be important to retrace your steps every time you unlock a new ability: secrets, objects or new Pokémon could hide in places that previously could not be reached.

I three paths

As part of the heartfelt legend you will meet and face great Pokémon to solve a mystery The choice of the open world design has also changed the way you handle the stories that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet want to tell. It all begins at the academy (Orange for Scarlet, Grape for Violet) where, as an extracurricular project, you will embark on the famous search for treasures along which three stories will intertwine that you can live in the order you prefer. The first is the path of the Champions and will be the classic conquest of the eight gyms scattered around the many cities of Paldea with the aim of reaching the rank of Champion. As with most of the activities in these two new chapters, there is no set order in which to face the gyms, you decide who to tackle first.

The second narrative line will be that of the legendary path that will make you join forces with Pepe, a student of a higher class, in the search for rare ingredients, the "hidden spices". Everything revolves around the Scarlet Book and the Violet Book, accounts of an expedition dating back long before the events of the games. The members of these expeditions have gone into an unexplored area of the Paldea region, but it is not clear whether what is told in the books is true. Pepe will tell you the story of two creatures (one for Scarlatto and one for Violetto) called Grandizzanne and Solcoferreo that would have been sighted during these expeditions. The information is limited so your mission will be to find out as much as possible.

She is Apple, one of the leaders of the Team Star that you will have to face in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Finally, the avenue of stardust will lead you to undoing the plans of Team Star, a group of thugs who cause problems at the academy. Here you will have to find and attack their bases, eventually defeating their leader. From the trailers we know that one of the leaders of this team is called Apple, she trains fire-type Pokémon and will be the protagonist of one of the Star team's raids on strongholds.

Co-op, cities and villages

The cooperative game is one of the most interesting novelties of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Another great novelty of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the possibility to play in cooperative with 3 other players and explore the Mediterranean scrub, forests, beaches together and the snow-capped peaks of Paldea. With them you will be able to carry out treasure hunting missions, participate in the new Teracristal raids (focusing on the new Pokémon enhancement mechanics) and exchange your portable monsters. The trailers also invite you to organize rides on the backs of your Koraidon and Miraidon to elect the most skilled to navigate the many biomes of Paldea. Finally, the last touch of the Iberian Peninsula can be found in the cities and villages of the new Game Freak video games. From the large city of Mesapoli, home of the academy, to the small coastal towns, the atmosphere is typically Mediterranean. Cafes, shops, squares and many characters to meet populate the streets of this region making an excellent contrast to the wilder parts of Paldea, such as its caves and its mountains.

The open world of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is destined to change forever how we live our adventures in the company of portable monsters. From exploration, to cooperative mode, passing through the various narrative lines of the story, this choice of is synonymous with freedom. Now all that remains is to wait for the release of the new video games developed by Game Freak to go and explore firsthand the beaches, forests, snow-capped mountains, rocky canyons and Mediterranean scrub that make up the Paldea region.
