Scott the Woz: Help, I like a Youtuber!

Scott the Woz

Hey y'all, Lukas here, and I have to say, it's just not humanly okay if a person who is significantly younger than me delivers really good videos on Youtube and also shows a damn funny sense of humor

Because: Young people are known to be nothing and Youtube is crap anyway, unless you are listening to a guy with 9 subscribers who is building a quantum computer on his own.

Well, I'm exaggerating, of course , but of course I cannot completely escape some of the prejudices. A majority of the young or pseudo-young Youtubers, like all the influencers in the world, piss me off, I react with skilful ignoring and getting over it anyway.

Scott the Woz is the name of the good man's channel, himself Scott Wozniak and he's 24 years old. His channel, although online for much longer, has been supplied with new videos since the beginning of 2017. Current number of subscribers: just under 1.5 million. Yeah, I know I'm pretty late for the party.

Not like the others

At first glance, Scott's content doesn't differ much from that of other gaming youtubers. He takes a topic or a single game and talks about it. How he does it is unique.

The result is more than terrifying. var lstExcludedArticleTicker = '1377333,1377034,1376840,1375644'; First of all, everything he does is scripted, without exception, to perfection. That doesn't mean that huge amounts of money are being poured into production here, on the contrary. Everything is very simple for a long time, Scott usually sits in front of his always the same, spartan background, talking, then gameplay or other material is shown while he speaks from the off.

No, what I mean is that every look is perfect, every cut is for a good reason, a huge effort is made for actually tiny sidegags, for example the entire studio is unceremoniously set in the garden.

Quality through strict rules

This is how from what with someone like Peanutbuttergamer, who basically follows a similar approach, ends up with much less effort but often in a Dadaist cring show, for which I am probably simply too old, more an extremely skillfully structured comedy format.

Of course, the really well-written texts also contribute to this. Over the years Scott has established numerous running gags, but they are not overused to the extent that they would be annoying; and he works with the constant element of surprise when a scene or a statement leads to a completely different statement than one would have expected.

Authentic, but not himself

Part of this The fictional character Scott Wozniak himself is also responsible for the scripts and the narrative, some of which runs as a red thread through all of the videos all of this seems authentic. Although he acts continuously - and he does it pretty well - it doesn't seem like he's playing anything for you.

I like when I follow someone on Youtube, it's those who don't feel like they are pretending to be. That's why I really like the series Boundary Break by Youtubers Shezez, who always seems like he's chatting to you personally. Scott the Woz manages that too, but on a completely different level and in a completely different way.

One restriction in terms of the high quality: For me personally, some statements are repeated too often, points are raised and repeated three sentences later, sometimes almost word for word. That could be tightened up, but in return of course it gives the videos an easily comprehensible structure.

Breaking out of the blue frame

In fact, it is with Scott's videos through the constant visual and narrative gags in such a way that, unlike other videos on Youtube, I don't watch its content at the same time, for example when I'm cooking. No, I want to be there without being distracted, even though the videos have become longer and longer over the years and nowadays can take 30 minutes to over an hour.

This is especially true for the videos, where the production effort is (slightly) increased and Scott, together with a group of constant friends, fires off an extremely fast, extremely absurd and extremely funny cascade of nonsense, always based on content and never as an end in itself - and always fully scripted, of course. This video, in which a dinner invitation degenerates into a completely stupid Whodunnit, is one of my personal highlights.

Unique selling point: Unique position

I don't remember where I read it, but someone once said that Scott's charm and uniqueness also come from the fact that he almost never has any half-baked collaborations with other Youtubers see is and I agree. He lives and acts in his own little microcosm, which is exactly what makes it so special.

And Scott actually refuses to accept any merchandise or other advertising cooperation. Earbuds or NordVPN are not advertised on him, and his video, in which he takes apart the massive money-fed Raid: Shadow Legends, is an absolute highlight.

Without any question, he would earn a lot more money if he entered into appropriate deals, one and a half million subscribers are a good negotiating argument - but he doesn't. And that speaks for him too, you can tell that Scott does what he does out of conviction and love for the medium of video games. He has a creative voice, and he pulls it off incredibly credibly.

The new generation

For me he is what the angry video game nerd was when he was back in 2004 the comparatively young Internet, with its different videos full of heart, gathered a fan base, some of which is loyal to this day; and that although, unlike Scott the Woz, he always looked a bit wooden even in his best times, his scripts never reached its level and, above all, poop and burp humor were supposed to cause the laughs over long stretches.

Nowadays you can mostly forget him and his channel Cinemassacre anyway. Sure, I understand that after 17 years of doing the same job and getting older, at some point you don't feel like it anymore. But there the videos sometimes only seem like carriers for product placement and they are produced with about as much love as TV Total in Stefan Raab's last creative years.

Nerd 2.0

Scott the Woz is for me the only, or at least the only known, legitimate successor who has everything (minus the retro focus) that made the nerd unique, only significantly better.

If it works now someone asks what the point I am getting with this column is: there is none. In fact, I just wanted to introduce what I think was a great Youtuber, who of course many people already know, but not enough, and express my appreciation for him. May he continue to make successful videos as long as he is now.
