Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro official

A little surprisingly, Google has officially unveiled its new Android smartphones Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro: the announcement took place through a series of tweets published directly on the Mountain View company's account and not with the usual dedicated event. It is therefore a sort of preview of Google smartphones, while more information will arrive in the autumn, when we get closer to their launch on the market.

Many features confirmed by Google were already known, thanks to the leaks that occurred. in the past few months. In particular, the premium design of these new smartphones was confirmed, the configuration of the photographic sector, the implementation of the custom chip made by Google and clearly the new Android 12 operating system. We just have to wait a few more weeks to find out the price. , the availability and further features of these Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

So let's see in detail the technical specifications, design, operating system and differences of the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, for understand what the new smartphones of the Mountain View company will be like.

New Google Tensor SoC

New Google Tensor SoC made entirely by the company We met it with the codename Whitechapel and now the first SoC for smartphones designed internally by the American company was officially baptized Google Tensor (referring to Tensors, the Processing Units used in their data centers). After four years of development, Google is finally ready to bring this new chip into its high-end smartphones.

The main advantage of Google Tensor is to implement the most modern artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies directly in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Thanks to them, Google smartphones will enjoy new exclusive functions and notable improvements. in the photographic field and in that of voice recognition for the use of Google Assistant.

We can also expect advantages in terms of performance, both related to the CPU and to the GPU, given that for the first time the company designed the hardware and software of these mobile devices. For the moment, however, we do not have any official data on these parts of the SoC, just as we do not know the specifications of the 5G modem present under the body. The chip has been designed to be "always on", so it must guarantee low power consumption for background processes for sufficient autonomy to cover the whole day.

Finally, Google Tensor with Titan M2 will have more layers security hardware of any other smartphone for greater data protection and a particular focus on user privacy.

Design

The different colors of the Google Pixel and Pixel 6 Pro Also on the front of design, Google has taken a significant step forward compared to past models. The choice of materials and in general the aesthetics of the product itself have improved, definitely leading to a higher range. In addition to the small differences between the two Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro models that we will see later, the two smartphones essentially share the same lines and a fine selection of materials in line with other top-of-the-range products.

Google has finally decided to abandon plastic in favor of glass and aluminum for a superior overall quality. The display covers the entire front of smartphones with a slightly more pronounced lower edge and a small hole to accommodate the camera at the top. The aluminum edge should guarantee a good sturdiness and a pleasant sensation to the touch.

The rear part of the body, on the other hand, has been made of glass, divided into two sections by the "camera bar" where the lenses for the camera. The available colors will be black, silver and gold for Pixel 6 Pro and black, teal and red for Pixel 6. Rick Osterloh himself, head of the hardware section of Google, said he wanted to bring to the market a premium product in all respects . This makes us think that the list price could easily align with the high-end smartphones made by Huawei, Samsung and Apple, thus reaching the now classic € 1,000 in price.

Android 12 operating system

An Android 12 teaser Officially presented a few months ago on the occasion of Google I / O 2021, the new Android 12 operating system is currently still in beta. Google has confirmed that it will arrive for all users at the end of the year and these new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be the first smartphones to mount this version of Android. Among the main innovations, partly also linked to the new smartphone colors, is the new graphic interface based on the "Material You" philosophy.

This new language adapts completely to the aesthetic preferences of the user. In Android 12 we can in fact define the colors of the entire user interface, either by using a special editor, or by leaving the work to the artificial intelligence which will take its cue from the colors of the chosen background.

For more information about the new Android 12 operating system we invite you to read our dedicated special, where we have summarized all the innovations introduced by Google.

Differences between Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

Pixel 6 Pro in the three colors available at launch In addition to the colors that we have already listed above, black, silver and gold for Pixel 6 Pro and black, teal and red for Pixel 6, there will be important differences between Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro that will touch the components, the photographic sector and the design of the 2 models.

Based on the characteristics confirmed so far, we therefore know that the Google Pixel 6 Pro will have a 6.7-inch screen with QHD + resolution and an update frequency of 120 Hz while the Google Pixel 6 will have a slightly smaller 6.4-inch display with FH + resolution and a refresh rate of 90 Hz.

The panels of the 2 smartphones also differ in shape: in the Pixel 6 Pro the front panel will be slightly curved at the edges and will converge i n a frame made of polished aluminum while the edges of the Pixel 6 will be completely flat, creating a decidedly sharp angle with the matt aluminum frame.

Google Pixel 6 in the three colors available at launch The differences for that are also very important which concerns the photographic sector and, more generally, the "camera bar", the rear strip that houses all the lenses. In the Pixel 6 Pro this rear "camera bar" will have generous dimensions as it has to accommodate three different lenses: a new main wide-angle, an ultra-wide-angle sensor and finally a lens with a 4x optical zoom. We don't know much else except for the wide-angle sensor which, according to Google's statements, will be able to capture 150% more light than the last version.

The Pixel 6 will instead host a "camera bar" with a space reduced. This is because the cheaper smartphone houses only two lenses for the camera, losing the telephoto lens for the optical zoom.

We also assume that there will be differences in terms of memory and storage between the two models, but unfortunately not we have more details about it at the moment.

Release and price rumors

Google Pixel 6 Pro As previously mentioned, Google has not yet officially revealed the price of the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Given the significant steps forward in terms of design, the implementation of a SoC completely designed by Google and a high-level photographic sector, we expect a price in line with other top-of-the-range products.

This means that Google will probably approach (and probably exceed) the € 1,000 threshold, especially as regards Italy.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are scheduled to be released ina> autumn 2021 even if we don't have an official date: it will likely be unveiled during the unveiling event coming up in the coming weeks. Last year of the three smartphones presented by Google (Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G and 4a), only the least expensive model arrived in Italy. We hope that this year Google will be able to guarantee a better distribution in our country, even if the recent problems of availability of other electronic devices do not give us hope.

According to the latest rumors appeared on the net, the models could only be marketed in the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, Taiwan, UK, France and Germany. We will see if this information will be confirmed by Google before the launch, hoping to receive some more information on the eventual arrival in Italy.
