WrestleMania 37: results and coverage of the most anticipated WWE event of the year

WrestleMania 37

Not even adverse weather conditions could stop WWE superstars. Fixed some technical problems due to a real storm that hit Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida, over 25 thousand fans were able to attend WrestleMania 37: two nights of adrenaline, emotions and a great show, which marked the return of the public in attendance 13 months after the last live event. For the presence of the public inside the stadium, in compliance with the guidelines of the local authorities, WWE has followed all the safety protocols, such as temperature measurement, accurate screening, social distancing, the mandatory use of protective masks. and the sanitization of all environments. So let's go and examine what happened in the most important PPV of the year, which took place on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 April. If you missed the WrestleMania 37 live stream and want to catch up on both PPV nights on a delayed basis, you can watch them exclusively on WWE Network. A big step towards the return to normality

Before starting the event, the WWE boss greeted the public Vince McMahon, who took the stage together with all the protagonists of the ring. An exciting moment to underline how, due to the ongoing health emergency, the most important ingredient that makes this sport-entertainment special was missing: the warmth of the fans and the interaction with superstars. The first night of WrestleMania (here you can read our special on the history of the event) opened with a live by Bebe Rexha, who sang "America The Beatiful". Instead, the two official PPV presenters, Hulk Hogan and Titus O’Neil, took care of the engines.

The opening match was the WWE Championship match between reigning champion Bobby Lashley and challenger Drew McIntyre. The two gave birth to a very physical meeting that saw Lashley come out unscathed even from three Future Shock DDT, the final maneuver of the Scotsman, before applying the Hurt Lock and taking home the victory by submission. The champion, therefore, also thanks to the help of his ally MVP, continues his reign as the undisputed ruler of Monday Night Raw.

Space also for the women's division of the WWE. Natalya and Tamina Snuka won a Tag Team Turmoil match, that is a meeting that saw the participation of several athletes from the roster, obtaining the opportunity to challenge the couple champions on the second night of WrestleMania. Pure spectacle in the match between Cesaro and Seth Rollins, two superstars who have known each other since the days of independent federations. After 10 years of career in WWE, the Swiss does not waste the opportunity of his first single match at WrestleMania and beats Seth Rollins after 23 Swings and the patented Neutralizer. At the end of the meeting, the fans gave him a real standing ovation, making him move in the center of the ring.

Bad Bunny superstar: from concerts to the world of Wrestling

Since her first appearance in WWE, the eyes of the pop world were all on Bad Bunny and there was great anticipation about her performance in the ring. Well, between jumps, flights and magic, the Puerto Rican rapper has become a well-rounded performer, managing to defeat, together with Damien Priest, the couple composed of The Miz and John Morrison. The decisive maneuver was a crossbody from the third string, performed by Bad Bunny to the dann of the former WWE Champion. Even the fans at home have openly praised him on social media, calling his performance the best ever done so far by a celebrity inside the ring.

During the first night of WrestleMania, the fans were also able to witness the surrender of contri between Braun Strowman and Shane McMahon, which took place inside a steel cage. The "Monster Among Men" took home victory after throwing Vince's son from the top of the structure. Impressive is the debut of Omos who, together with his assistant AJ Styles, won the couple titles of Monday Night Raw, previously held by Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. Thanks to this victory, also, Styles became a Grand Slam Champion, having conquered every title present in WWE.

The most important PPV of the year also represented the perfect opportunity to pay the right homage to those introduced in the Hall of Fame 2020, ceremony postponed due to health emergency. Stealing the show, along with John "Bradashaw" Layfield, the Bella Twins, Jushin Thunder Liger and relatives of the late The British Bulldog, were Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and X-Pac, introduced as members of the New World Order, one of the most important factions in Wrestling history.

A historical main event

To close the first night of WrestleMania were Bianca Belair, winner of the 2021 Royal Rumble, and the SmackDown Women's Champion Sasha Banks. The WWE has therefore decided to repeat the experiment of edition number 35, where Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey concluded the event. This time, however, it was a historic occasion: for the first time, two black women took part in a WrestleMania main event. The two were the protagonists of a spectacular match, which lasted almost 20 minutes, where Bianca Belair won, crowning the dream of a lifetime and hugging herself in the center of the ring with her partner Montez Ford.

Opening the second night of WrestleMania instead, Randy Orton and The Fiend have thought about it, for months engaged in a heated rivalry. The alter ego of Bray Wyatt seemed to have the match on point, but a fatal distraction of the one who until recently was a devotee of him, or Alexa Bliss, allowed the challenger to connect with the licensed RKO and take home the meeting. Natalya and Tamina Snuka, on the other hand, could not do anything against the physical prowess of Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, who confirmed themselves as WWE duo champions.

Great friends, bitter rivals

Both of Canadian descent, they both cut their teeth in independent federations around the world before joining WWE. After years of partnerships and clashes, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have finally gotten the chance to perform in a single match at WrestleMania. The winner was Owens himself, unleashed and cheered by the public, who knocked out Sami with a Stunner (the final maneuver of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin). The same fate also befell YouTuber Logan Paul, special guest of the PPV and who had already intruded in the storyline between the two at SmackDown.

The matches valid for the secondary titles of both roster are also very good. Sheamus managed to become the United States Champion again, defeating the reigning champion Riddle, while Apollo Crews graduated, for the first time in his career, Intercontinental Champion. The second night of WrestleMania also gave space to the Women’s Championship: up for grabs was that of Raw, held by the Japanese superstar Asuka. Her challenger, Rhea Ripley, once again amazed the fans: at just 24 she became the new champion of the red show, clearing the way to a future full of successes.

The undisputed domination of Roman Reigns

To close the 37th edition of WrestleMania we thought Roman Reigns, Edge and Daniel Bryan, protagonists of a spectacular Triple Threat match valid for the Universal Championship. Three superstars with different paths, but accompanied by the same fate: being able to return to the ring despite previous health problems. Reigns was forced to leave the ring due to a leukemia, fortunately presented in mild form, Edge had to retire in 2011 due to numerous neck injuries and Bryan left the scene in 2016 due to various physical problems.

A heart-pounding match, full of reversals, which saw Roman Reigns keep the Universal Championship and solidify his status as “Tribal Chief” once and for all. To make his dominance even clearer, the superstar of Samoan origins pinned both opponents, placing them one on top of the other. On the proud look of Roman Reigns and on the grin of his manager Paul Heyman, therefore, a WrestleMania closes that will certainly go down in history for having cheered the souls of the spectators present, and of millions of fans connected from home, in a rather particular period where the mainstream landscape has been flooded with negative news on a daily basis.
