Video Game Hall of Fame, the 2021 finalists

After having welcomed The Legend of Zelda, Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Kart, Final Fantasy VII, Minecraft and many other prestigious productions over the years, this year the World Video Game Hall of Fame is preparing to extend its boundaries.

The management of the Strong National Museum of Play has in fact announced the definitive list of games candidates to become part of the prestigious selection. Below, we point out the possible 2021 entries in the videogame Hall of Fame:

Animal Crossing: after the recent news of the achievement of over 31 million copies sold for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the progenitor of the Nintendo saga, which debuted in 2001, is among the candidates for entry into the Hall of Fame ; Call of Duty: the first COD, set in the Second World War, developed by the Infinity Ward team and published by Activision; FarmVille: the legendary free-to-play agricultural life simulator developed by Zynga in 2010 - one year after launch - had over 80 million active users every month; FIFA International Soccer: debuted in 1993, it marked the beginning of the still more than famous EA sports saga; Guitar Hero: the 2005 music simulator started an entire genre, turning rock into a video game; Mattel Football: arrived on the market in 1977, it was the first portable video game to become a real commercial hit; Microsoft Flight Simulator: the most influential flight simulator of all time, recently made a comeback thanks to the new and much appreciated Microsoft Flight Simulator; Pole Position: the racing game debuted in 1982 in an arcade version, invading arcades all over the world; Portal: first chapter of the Valve series, which arrived on the market in 2007; StarCraft: a new qualitative peak for the real-time strategy of the period, Blizzard's Starcraft debuted in 1998; Tron: first arcade title linked to a Hollywood movie, debuted in arcades in 1982; Where in the World is Carmen San Diego? : launched in 1995, it marked the launch of one of the most famous franchises able to blend entertainment and education; The new entries into the World Video Game Hall of Fame will be announced on May 6, 2021, via a live stream broadcast from the Rochester - New York headquarters of the museum.
