Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

The new Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is here - or not. Because, we also had a corresponding news online: The Founders Edition for just under 400 euros was sold out within a minute, and the custom versions of the partner manufacturers, which were launched at the same time in online shops, were mostly sold out after half an hour, although they often cost 550 euros and more. There are, of course, good reasons that the demand is so high. The new graphics card from Nvidia offers a very good performance for just under 400 euros - that's how much the Founders Edition from Nvidia costs.

What is more, the fact that the graphics card market above 350 euros is currently almost extinct and you have almost no choice if you need more performance than that of an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT.

Zotac GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Twin Edge Source: PC Games Hardware The AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT now costs over 400 euros - recently it was just under 350 euros. Incidentally, on the subject of the graphics card market and the current situation, we will also publish a column at the weekend in which our author explains the market situation, explains reasons for the situation and adds a personal note to the whole. But what is the performance of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti in detail? For this purpose, we analyzed several tests of the graphics card and statistically summarized the results in order to determine a good overall assessment. You can find the results on the next page - but first let's take a look at the technical details of the graphics card.

GeForce RTX 3060 Ti: Technology

The new Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti uses the GP104 uses the same graphics chip as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070. Admittedly, the RTX 3060 Ti does not have as many shader units enabled (around 20 percent less than the RTX 3070), and the clock rates are also below the big sister, although there is only one here about three to six percentage points difference. When it comes to video memory, eight gigabytes are available, which are connected with 256 bits as with the GeForce RTX 3070 for a data rate of 448 gigabytes per second. When it comes to electricity demand, the TDP, which strictly speaking only indicates the possible waste heat energy and not the electricity demand, is 200 watts - but the electricity consumption is close to this value. These are the data of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti compared to the two faster new RTX 3000 graphics cards, on the far left we have placed the GeForce RTX 2080 Super for comparison:

Model RTX 2080 Super RTX 3060 Ti RTX 3070 RTX 3080 GPU TU104 G104 GA104 GA102 production 12nm 8nm 8nm 8nm transistors 13.6 billion 17.4 billion 17.4 billion 28 billion shader units 3072 4864 5888 8704 RT cores 48 38 46 68 base clock 1650 MHz 1410 1500 MHz 1450 MHz Boost clock 1905 MHz 1665 1725 MHz 1710 MHz RAM amount 8GB GDDR6 8GB GDDR6 8GB GDDR6 10GB GDDR6X RAM connection 256 bit 256 bit 256 bit 320 bit RAM bandwidth 496 GB / s 448 GB / s 448 GB / s 760 GB / s TDP 250 watts 200 watts 220 watts 320 watts Price (Founders Edition) 749 euros 399 euros 499 euros 699 euros Put simply, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is a light version of the GeForce RTX 3070.

This is not surprising in view of the name, because a Ti graphics card is traditionally very close to the model of the name to a higher class graphics card. Nvidia also leaves room for a GeForce RTX 3060 thanks to the Ti name. Of course, Nvidia could have omitted the addition Ti on the RTX 3060 Ti. Then a somewhat slower RTX model, which is likely to come, would have to be given the model number 3050, which many customers could mistakenly misinterpret as an entry-level graphics card in relation to the entire graphics card market, although it might do as much as an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or the already sold-out GeForce RTX 2060 Super. In the entry-level sector and the price range up to around 300 euros, however, we still expect a few GTX models, as was the case after the release of the RTX 2000 graphics cards in the form of the GTX 1600 series
