Formula E, first night race in Saudi Arabia
Night race in 2021 for the Formula E World Championship. The debut in the ePrix of Ad-Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, where the races will take place under artificial lights. Double appointment, set for 26 and 27 February 2021, respectively as the third and fourth round of the championship.

Environmental sustainability

The start of the two races will be given at 20 (local time) and the track will be illuminated by a brand new low consumption LED system, which guarantees a saving of 50% compared to a traditional installation. However, to carry forward the green goal of Formula E, the entire plant will be powered by renewable energy.

In this regard, Alberto Longo, CEO of Formula E, expressed his enthusiasm, declaring:

I am sure we will see some spectacular races for a competition never seen before. Before even thinking about the night race from a sporting point of view, we made sure to maintain the sustainability standard that has always characterized us.

It is therefore no coincidence that the great goal of low environmental impact solutions is set , as sustainable and renewable energies, even in big competition races. The director of the Saudi Automobile Federation himself has made known the reasons that led to the choice to run the World Championship at night.

Saudi Arabia has embarked on a journey to embrace renewable and sustainable energy, hence the Formula And it represents for us more than just a race, but it is a real partnership that looks to the future of sustainable energy.

Great participation from Audi

For the first time since participating in Formula E, Audi will race with a powertrain developed entirely in-house. Not surprisingly, the past few seasons have seen the development of powertrains together with technology partner Schaeffer. This seventh season will therefore bring the debut of the Audi e-tron FE07 single-seater, with which Lucas Digrassi and Rene Rast will compete for the title.

From 0 to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds and higher overall efficiency to 95%. These are just some of the features of the Audi e-tron FE07 which on the track will have the unprecedented MGU05 propulsion unit, characterized by an electric motor with single-speed transmission and internal rotor structure and external magnets, assisted by a high-flow and strong cooling system. of six phases for the optimization of torque delivery. In detail, the powertrain weighs less than 35 kg, with a power output of 250 kW. Thanks to this new unit, the Audi electric single-seater can reach a maximum speed of 240 km / h.

Participation in the race inevitably confirms the long process of transformation of the German car manufacturer towards sustainable and digital mobility .

Motorsport has always been at the heart of Audi's strategy for developing state-of-the-art technologies. Audi e-tron FE07 is equipped with a completely new electric powertrain - explained Stefan Aicher, Head of Electric Motors Development at Audi Sport - and for the first time developed in-house.
