Assetto Corsa Competizione: the version for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S and the mobile game arrive

Assetto Corsa Competizione

In the past few days we have had the pleasure of participating in an event organized by Kunos Simulations. On this occasion, the developers of the popular Assetto Corsa Competizione provided us with various information on the future of the series, directly answering some of our questions. After the debut on Playstation 4 and Xbox One last year (on PC it is available from 2019), Assetto Corsa Competizione will arrive on the new generation consoles at the beginning of 2022. In addition to this revised version, specially enriched with some new content, the developers have created a new mobile game for iOS and iPadOS based on the experience of the first Assetto Corsa. There were also some clues about the future of the series with the next chapter already in development at the studios of Kunai Simulations.

In short, a lot of meat in the fire for the world of sim-racing, where the Assetto brand Corsa has undoubtedly become one of the reference points for all fans. So let's see what are the innovations present in the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S version of Assetto Corsa Competizione and how the mobile game inspired by the series seemed to us.

Version for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X | S

BMW M4 GT3 coming to Assetto Corsa Competizione The developers are still working on the game in order to refine the driving simulation to take advantage of all the power of new gaming machines. The main goal is clearly to bring a technically fluid title to next-gen without hesitation. Assetto Corsa Competizione on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X | S will run at 60 frames per second. However, the doubt remains about the native resolution in 4K, because if it does not guarantee sufficient stability, the developers will decide to make it dynamic. Different speech instead for Xbox Series S, where the resolution will undoubtedly be dynamic in order to maintain good performance on this less powerful hardware. Instead, support for 120 FPS is missing, because according to the developers the graphics engine is too demanding to be able to guarantee these performances at high resolutions. We won't even see ray tracing in the next-gen version of the simulation title, as it would compromise the frame rate in gameplay too much. Speaking of the latter, Kunos Simulations has guaranteed that there are no differences in the driving model between the platforms supported by the game. The simulation level is therefore identical on both old and new generation consoles as well as on PC. They are also currently working to take full advantage of the features of the PS5's Dualsense controller with the use of adaptive triggers and haptic feedback for better pad response while driving on the game's tracks.

As for instead additional content, Kunos Simulations first promised the arrival of the coveted BMW M4 GT3, which will debut within Assetto Corsa Competizione between the end of the year and the beginning of next year. The liveries of the machines in the game will also be updated to adopt the new sponsors and colors of the 2021 championship. There will also be new DLCs on which the developers have not been able to overbalance. These will undoubtedly include new cars for a total of 6 or 7 cars that will see their debut in 2022. At the beginning of next year, new tracks will also arrive on which we do not know much as they are still in the negotiation phase for official licenses. . Kunos Simulations is currently evaluating whether to add a new photo mode within Assetto Corsa Competizione on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.

On the other hand, the much requested cross-play will not be present, because the netcode used and other problems related to the management of the servers do not allow the implementation of this function. Contrary to what is seen on PC, the next-gen version will instead support private online lobbies with the ability to customize the various settings for the competition between other players.

The new version of Assetto Corsa Competizione for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X | S will arrive on February 24, 2022. All owners of the title on older generation consoles will be able to upgrade to the next-gen version for free, also getting all the new free DLCs.

Assetto Corsa Mobile

The Assetto logo Corsa Mobile Given the enormous diffusion of mobile devices, Assetto Corsa will soon arrive on iPhone and iPad as well. By harnessing the power of recent Apple devices, the developers have managed to make this driving simulation pocketable. Strongly inspired by the structure and contents of the first Assetto Corsa, this new mobile video game will offer a very similar feeling, minimizing technical and gameplay compromises. Overall, within the mobile version we will find 59 cars and 9 official circuits, all - as usual - faithfully reproduced. We will be able to whiz with our racing cars in 6 different game modes, using the touch controls optimized to have the best experience on iPhone and iPad.

Assetto Corsa Mobile will arrive on iOS and iPadOS on August 31, 2021, while it is not a version for Android devices is currently planned.

What awaits us in the future

Circuit of Imola in Assetto Corsa Competizione In addition to the DLCs we have already told you about, the developers are already working on next chapter in the series. According to the words of Marco Massarutto, co-founder and Executive Manager of Kunos Simulations, a new video game from Assetto Corsa is essential to continue to evolve the brand. Although the community has remained surprisingly active on the first Assetto Corsa with the introduction of new mods and additional content created by the gamers themselves, many feel the lack of a real chapter of the series arriving exclusively on next-gen and PC. Kunos Simulations is focusing mainly on the gameplay of their new creature, probably to improve the physics engine and the response of the cars on the various tracks of the game. Having more computing power at your disposal, you can introduce more variables and therefore increase the level of depth of the experience. Unfortunately, for the moment they have not been able to provide us with more information about it and we will have to wait again to find out more details about the future of the series.

Assetto Corsa Competizione in-game image As for the old generation consoles, after the publication of the next-gen version of Assetto Corsa Competizione, some small changes and improvements are planned to the Playstation 4 and Xbox version One with the aim of further improving the game also on these platforms. On PC, however, Kunos Simulations is working with NVIDIA to bring DLSS technology into Assetto Corsa to give a further boost to in-game performance. Just like on the new generation consoles, the long-awaited ray tracing will not be introduced. The DLSS and the old-gen update of Assetto Corsa Competizione will arrive in the first quarter of 2022 as a free download.
