Samantha Cristoforetti becomes Battlestar Galactica's Starbuck

Today we are talking about a person we know very well: our compatriot Samantha Cristoforetti, now on the International Space Station (on Amazon you can find the Lego version). During her second mission, Minerva, the European Space Agency astronaut took a break to chat with fans at the German science fiction convention FedCon. Samantha Cristoforetti, unable to attend the event in person, sent a video in which she imitates Starbuck (Scorpion) from Battlestar Galactica.

In the video, the astronaut remembers having already impersonated other characters who have appeared on the big and small screen. One of these is Captain Janeway from Star Trek: The Next Generation in 2015. Last June, however, we saw her imitate Doctor Stone from Gravity, the character played by Sandra Bullock.

In response to the astronaut, the same actress of Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica, Katee Sackhoff, tweeted: “We finally know what happened to Starbuck! "

Also, below you can see the complete video of the short meeting between the astronaut and the fans:

Now I'm here for my second flight, a mission called Minerva, and I thought it would be nice to remember another great space pilot. You know, I haven't seen any Cylons up here, not yet. If any come, I know exactly who to call: the best Viper pilot in the Colonial Fleet, Kara Thrace or Scorpion. I also have her dog tags here. So now we finally know what happened to her when she disappeared at the end of the series.

Battlestar Galactica

At FedCon, held in Germany in early June, Samantha Cristoforetti talked about life in space, and did so by literally putting herself in the shoes of the modern version of Starbuck, the one played by Katee Sackhoff starting from 2004. We recall that the series in question was aired for 4 seasons and led to the production of some subsequent films on the Sci-Fi Channel.

The original series, we remember it , recounts the Twelve Colonies of Humanity and their long war against the robotic race known as the Cylon. When the Cylons ended the war in a sneak attack that destroyed the colonies' home planets, the last remaining capital warship, Battlestar Galactica, was forced to lead what was left of humanity in search of the lost thirteenth colony, the Terra.
