WWE SuperShow: Our trip to London's Wembley Arena

WWE SuperShow

Two years after their last overseas tour, WWE superstars have returned to inflame the British public with an adrenaline-pumping week of live events. We at Cultura Pop had the opportunity to attend the SuperShow on November 7, held in the historic Wembley Arena in London, which involved stars of Raw, SmackDown and NXT 2.0. Let's analyze in detail what was in effect an evening of pure entertainment.

The great return of WWE to London

The event opened with the warm greeting of Byron Saxton to the London audience who filled all the stands of the Wembley Arena. Concrete testimony of how, despite the pandemic, there was great expectation from fans to see the most beloved WWE stars live.

Clashing in the opener in a match valid for the Intercontinental Championship were Shinsuke Nakamura and Jinder Mahal. As imaginable, the Japanese superstar was literally hailed by the fans present and took home the victory with the licensed Kinshasa.

The second match of the evening was the best of the entire show. Damian Priest, United States Champion, defended the title from the onslaught of Finn Balor, Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens in a heart-pounding Fatal 4 Way. At the end of the meeting Priest and Balor exchanged a handshake as a sign of mutual respect.

The WWE SuperShow was the right stage to show the athletic skills of Bron Breakker, son of Rick Steiner and grandson of Scott Steiner. Despite the defeat, the young star of NXT 2.0 has once again shown that she can stand up to a veteran of the caliber of Tommaso Ciampa (whom we had the opportunity to interview and before the show).

WWE women's division ignites London

Crowd for Becky Lynch. Although she is now in the ranks of the "heel", the Raw Women's Champion was warmly welcomed by the public, managing to defeat Bianca Belair and Doudrop in a Triple Threat Match.

The women's division of SmackDown also put on a show. Charlotte Flair, with her usual triumphal entry as a queen, has kept the title from the onslaught of Sasha Banks.

The great alchemy of RK-Bro

The strange couple composed by Randy Orton and Riddle quickly became one of the most popular in all of WWE. Riddle's bizarre attitude (you can read our interview here) mixed with Orton's veteran experience has created a tag team that is loved by the public. The two defended the duo titles from the onslaught of Street Profits and former champions Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler.

The main event saw current WWE Champion Big E and challenger Bobby Lashley collide in one Street Fight Match. Several blunt objects brought into play, including chairs, kendo sticks and tables. The winner was the New Day member with the licensed Big Ending after a massive crash from Lashley on a table at the corner of the ring.

Big E then took the microphone to thank the audience for their support shown towards him, declaring himself proud to be back in London, this time with the maximum title around his life.

The magic of sport-entertainment

Even though it was a simple live event , the emotions that come with attending a WWE live show are indisputable. The emotional connection that is created between fans and superstars is the focal point of this sport-entertainment, unfortunately, often mistreated and misinterpreted. The hope is that the Stamford Company will be able to return to Italy with great fanfare in the not too distant future, regaining its share of the public.

We remind you that you can follow the WWE's weekly programming on Discovery + while the PPVs are available exclusively on the WWE Network. To subscribe to the platform, at an affordable price, just follow this link.
