iPhone 13, what Apple did not say on stage at the California Streaming event

iPhone 13

The presentation event that Apple organizes every year for the announcement of the new generation of iPhone is always full of surprises. The company spent several minutes explaining some of the main innovations that users will find in their hands with the purchase of one of the four models of the iPhone 13, however, as usual, it was not possible to go into all the smallest details.

This is what Apple did not say during the presentation of the new smartphones but you should know!

The biggest changes are hidden inside

The design of the new iPhone 13 it is not too dissimilar from that of the models that preceded them. Apple, after focusing on almost completely revamping the aesthetics of its smartphones last year, this time has opted for a more iterative approach.

This does not mean, however, that no changes have been made under the body significant to what is, in fact, the heart of the iPhone.

As noted by Brahm Shank of the podcast Appleosophy, who wrote down some notes on a photo posted by Sonny Dickson, the internal components of the iPhone 13 ( the base model) have changed in shape and volume compared to those of the iPhone 12.

Not only is the larger battery and an almost half-sized Taptic Engine visible, the new sensor array used is also clearly visible for Face ID which now includes the dot projector on the left side instead of the right. The changes to these sensors have allowed Apple to reduce the notch by 20%.

Increased weight and thickness, more protruding cameras

To accommodate the new batteries with increased capacity across the entire range of smartphones, Apple had to increase the thickness of all models, even if only slightly of iPhone 13. Not only that, now in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max the protrusion of the camera is much more conspicuous than in the past and in basic smartphones, so much so that Apple has been forced to implement a raised edge in all its new covers that surrounds them for protection.

As the volume of the batteries increases, so does the weight. The new iPhone 13 Pro Max, the largest of the family, now weighs 240g which is not too far from the foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3.

iPhone 13 Pro Max has a different charging system

Scrolling through the pages of the Apple site where the technical specifications of the iPhone 13 Pro Max are concentrated there is a detail that certainly attracts attention: Apple's largest smartphone is different from its brothers and from the models that preceded it in the charging system.

Apple iPhones are capable of charging from 0% to 50% in just 30 minutes using a compatible 20W power supply, not iPhone 13 Pro Max! The latter takes, in fact, 35 minutes, a difference that you will not feel in everyday life but which underlines how the battery size of this particular model is now at a higher level. Not only that, iPhone 13 Pro Max is also the only one capable of accepting up to 23W of charging power, 3W more than the other versions which could compensate for the difference in speed.

The new notch will drive perfectionists crazy

Of course, it was finally time that Apple decided to compress that notch on the display that has been with us since the launch of the iPhone X on the market and that many other manufacturers have taken as "inspiration" for their own smartphone. But what Apple did not point out during the announcement is that the new notch is slightly higher than previous models.

We are talking about a really tiny difference but one that will certainly infuriate those who spend a lot of time watching videos. on your smartphone. Videos in 18: 9 format, increasingly common especially on YouTube nowadays, will be slightly cut off by the notch. A handful of pixels, but definitely something that people who are easily irritated by little things like me will be extremely annoyed.

The only model that is immune to this change is the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The iPhone 13 have 3 “slots” for SIM cards

The range of iPhone 13 products is the first made by the Cupertino company to arrive on the market with actually 3 different “slots” for SIM cards. In fact, next to the now classic slot dedicated to a Micro SIM, there are two different eSIMs on the new models.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to use all three slots at the same time, probably due to the number of antennas that it would be necessary to mount, but only two. It makes no difference whether you want to use two eSIMs or a Micro SIM and an eSIM.
