WWE 2K22: New part of the wrestling franchise announced

WWE 2K22

As part of WrestleMania 37, 2K Games also unveiled the new title for the well-known wrestling series with a teaser trailer for WWE 2K22. We were allowed to watch the video in advance and take part in a short presentation in which we were given some additional information about the upcoming wrestling game.

The video itself, however, reveals little. We see WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio put on his mask and catch a few quick glances at his character model. Then we see a short excerpt from the gameplay in which Mysterio gives his opponent Cesaro, who is hanging in the ring ropes, a 619, Mysterios Finisher. Then the victorious Rey celebrates in the corner of the ring.

We would have liked a little more gameplay impressions in the teaser, but at least a few things could already be determined. So you can tell from the character models that the same engine is still used as in the last parts, but this has probably been revised properly. For example, you can now see more details - both on the wrestler's clothing and on the body. In addition, there is no date at the end of the teaser, but "Coming soon", which of course indicates that the title will not appear in October like its predecessors, but earlier.

WWE 2K22: How the wrestling series is back on the road to success

In his column, wrestling fan Chris explains how 2K's show sports series is back on the road to success Can be found. var lstExcludedArticleTicker = '1369976,1365684'; This also fits in with the information that Al Stavola, Global Communications Manager at 2K and previously at WWE, gave us. The subtitle for WWE 2K22 is "It hits different" and, according to Stavola, shouldn't just be a marketing slogan, but a fitting topic for the return of the series, which came after the technically miserable WWE 2K20 and the departure of the former core developer Yuke's Year paused and now wants to attack again.

As Stavola tells us, the topic should apply to both gameplay and marketing. Stavola didn't tell us exactly what changes to the game mechanics there will be, but it can be assumed that the often criticized control of the series has now been purified for WWE 2K22, so that the new part plays more catchy and therefore feels different. But we don't need to wait too long for tangible information about the gameplay, because 2K wants to take a different path with WWE 2K22 than before.

According to Stavola, they want to be much more transparent than in the past, so that the fans a lot used to get much deeper insights into the game and development. Visual Concepts worked hard to ensure that WWE 2K22 ironed out points of criticism and would be a big step in the right direction for the future of the franchise. They have a long-term plan to bring the WWE 2K brand back to life and the 22 version is the cornerstone for this. There will be plenty of new information and insights soon.

Al Stavola did not go into it directly, but his emphasis that they are now relying on a completely different way of marketing the game also gives hope that WWE 2K22 will either dispense with DLCs entirely or offer additional content. In contrast to its predecessors, where you should pay extra for wrestlers who were a normal part of the raster in the last part.

PCG editor Chris wrote in a column earlier this year what WWE 2K22 thinks about him has to do to get back on the road to success. The article with a detailed analysis of the WWE 2K20 disaster and its consequences can be found here. But what is your opinion on WWE 2K22? Are you cautiously optimistic because of the teaser and the statements by Al Stavola or are you skeptical of the game for the time being?
