PS Plus: Is Sony working on a series of discounts?

PS Plus

Through Twitter and ResetEra, we learn about the information shared by a Japanese player about PS Plus and the upgrade to Extra and Premium. The two new levels of the subscription service, according to the post, could receive a discount that could be up to 50%. The information, however, is in Japanese and we cannot confirm it with certainty. However, according to ResetEra and according to what emerges from the figures in the image, a player who tried to upgrade and saw that the total cost was significantly reduced.

The player in question, a subscriber for the next 1182 days, would have to spend 26,332 Yen (about 187 euros) to upgrade to PS Plus Premium. Instead, the price reported by the automatic system is 12,750 Yen (about 90 euros). It is, in fact, a discount of 50%. The same goes for the Extra subscription. | ); }

Obviously, there are some considerations to make. Even assuming the above is correct, the "discount" may only apply to long-time customers. Furthermore, what is reported refers to the Japanese market. It is possible that in other regions, Europe above all, there is no type of offer or promotion. We will therefore have to wait for official communications on the PS Plus Premium and Extra subscription before we can confirm these rumors. In the meantime, we remind you that the free games of the month of June have just been announced. Among them, we also find God of Wara>.

PlayStation Plus free games for June 2022 announced

June is a big month for PlayStation Plus, as the large download/streaming library of fellow subscription service PlayStation Now gets folded into Plus in territories outside of Asia.

The 'new' PS Plus is made of three tiers: Essential is exactly the same as Plus is now, Extra brings over the large downloadable library of PS4 games from PS Now, and adds some PS5 games into the mix, while Premium adds Now's selection of stream-only PS3 games and a new batch of downloadable PS1 and PSP titles, as well as the option to stream the vast majority of the entire Plus library.

Today, we're going to focus on the free titles from the standard PS Plus membership, since that's what most people have and will continue to be subscribed to, and unlike games on the higher tiers that could come and go (as subscription service content tends to do), these main Plus freebies are yours to keep for as long as you are subscribed.

The main freebie this month is 2018's God of War. A revival of the super-gory mythology-themed murder-thon, this entry continues Kratos' story but easily acts as a jumping-on point for newcomers, as the time, setting, structure and gameplay have all radically changed.

Our perpetually angry main protagonist is now a dad to Atreus, a meek boy who needs to learn how to fight if they are to embark on a journey to spread the boy's mother's ashes, while a powerful and mysterious figure keeps popping into their lives to cause trouble.

The game is currently on PS Now and is free to claim for Plus subscribers who have a PS5 console, but it's such a critically-acclaimed game, you can see why Sony wants to make it free for all Plus subscribers (and the sequel Ragnarok is on the way so why not get everyone up to speed?).

Next up, we've got Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker, part of the incredibly popular (and long) Naruto franchise which has seen several solid fighting games release over the years.

The draw of this entry compared to say, the Ultimate Ninja Storm games, is that battles are now four-on-four, and features content from the Boruto sequel series. If none of that makes any sense to you, just know that there are anime ninjas with incredibly over-the-top powers and some gorgeous graphical shading.

Following on from the popularity of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated as an April freebie (it's still in PSNProfiles' 'most played this week' section), we've got Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.

This one's essentially a low-budget Super Smash Bros with characters from Nick properties like SpongeBob, Danny Phantom, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more. Reviews are mixed, but there's plenty of nostalgia for the grand price of free. You also get separate PS4 and PS5 versions, so there's two Platinum trophies up for grabs if you're into that.

These three games will be available to claim for free from June 7. The revamped PS Plus services launch June 22 in the UK, and current Plus/Now subscribers cannot extend their subscriptions until then.
