The Rig: unveiled the cast of the new Amazon Prime Video series

The Rig

At the end of this March 2021, the filming of the new Amazon Prime Video TV series entitled The Rig, of which the cast has been unveiled today, will begin. The actors who will take part in the new thriller TV show, written by David Macpherson and directed by John Strickland, are Iain Glen, Emily Hampshire, Martin Compston, Rochenda Sandall, Owen Teale, Richard Pepple, Mark Bonnar, Calvin Demba, Emun Elliott , Abraham Popoola, Stuart McQuarrie and Molly Vevers. Below is the official synopsis of the original Prime Video TV series.

Magnus and his team aboard the Kinloch Bravo oil rig are stationed off the Scottish coast in the dangerous waters of the North Sea. When the time finally comes to return to the mainland, a mysterious and impenetrable fog descends. The platform is hit by strong tremors and suddenly find themselves unable to communicate with the coast and the outside world. As the team tries to find out what's causing these inexplicable tremors, a serious accident leads them to wonder who they can truly trust. The bonds of the past are broken and new alliances are formed as all generational fractures emerge. Everything in the Bravo team will be exhausted, from the loyal relationships between the crew members to the physical and mental endurance of each of them, in a head-to-head with strength beyond imagination.

Iain Glen, who we have already seen in Game of Thrones, plays Magnus MacMillan, Manager of the oil rig and leader of the team, Emily Hampshire (Schitt's Creek) plays, instead, the shoes of Rose Mason, scientist and representative of the oil company, the latest to arrive on the platform. Martin Compston is Hamilton’s press officer, while Rochenda Sandall plays paramedic Cat Braithwaite. Richard Pepple, star of the acclaimed Netflix TV series Bridgerton, is team leader Grant Dunlin. The Rig joins the numerous films, TV series and documentaries on the Prime Video online streaming platform, enriching its catalog.

Watch The Rig in high definition and all the other films, TV series and documentaries on Amazon Prime Video, we recommend the purchase of the Fire TV Stick 4K Ultra at this link.

Line of Duty fans are going to love new Amazon Prime thriller The Rig

From Cosmopolitan

If, like us, you've always struggled to fill the colossal hole left in your TV life when The Bodyguard ended back in 2018, we've got good news for you; the director behind The Bodyguard and Line of Duty has announced his next show - and it's about to start filming. The tense thriller, named The Rig, will air exclusively on Amazon Prime. Here's everything we know about the series.

What is The Rig going to be about?

The six-part series is set aboard the Kishorn Bravo oil rig, stationed off the Scottish Coast in the turbulent waters of the North Sea, and follows the dramatic story of the rig's isolated crew.

The official series synopsis says, 'When the crew are due to return to the mainland, a mysterious and all-enveloping fog rolls through and they find themselves cut off from all communication with the shore and the outside world.

'As they endeavour to discover what's driving this force, bonds are broken, allegiances formed and generational fault lines exposed. The crew of the Bravo will be driven to the limits of both their loyalties and their endurance, into a confrontation with forces beyond their imagination.'

Filming is due to start in Scotland on an oil rig later this month. The six-part series will also be shot at FirstStage Studios in Edinburgh, reports Deadline.

Who has been cast in The Rig?

Lots of big names have signed up for the project, including Line of Duty's Martin Compston, Game Of Thrones star Iain Glen and Schitt’s Creek actor Emily Hampshire. As well as the series leads, Deadline listed the entire cast and the roles they'll be playing: Small Axe star Rochenda Sandall will be playing medic Cat Braithwaite, Game of Thrones actor Owen Teale will play head driller Lars Hutton, and Bridgerton's Richard Pepple will play crew boss Grant Dunlin.

Rounding out the cast, Life actor Calvin Demba will play drill hand Baz Roberts, Emun Elliott will play rig mechanic Leck Longman, Cruella's Abraham Popoola will play rig crane driver Easter Ayodeji and Stuart McQuarrie will play head chef Colin Murchison.

Story continues

Glen will star as the leader of the rig crew, while Compston will play a communications officer and Hampshire will star as scientist and oil company rep Rose Mason.

The team behind the series is also full of TV big-hitters, with Line of Duty's John Strickland not only directing but is also executive producing alongside Human's Derek Wax. Fleabag's Kelly Valentine-Hendry acted as casting director on the project, and since she led the casting for Broadchurch and The Rig is set in Scotland, we're not surprised it's such a stellar line-up.

Do we have a trailer and release date for The Rig?

Sadly, we don't have either of these things, but we do know the six-part series starts shooting in late March, so hopefully it will land on Amazon Prime Video some time in early 2022.
