Supergirl 6, the end of the series

Last September DC, Warner Bros. and broadcaster The CW announced the decision to end Supergirl's run with Season 6 which will consist of 20 episodes. The announcement came after the lack of news for the series from the DC FanDome in August.

This is the second series of the Arrowverse which comes to an end after the flagship Arrow, which closed last year with Season 8, and which will also be followed by Black Lightning which will close with Season 4 recently started in United States.

The first to break the silence on the announcement was the splendid protagonist Melissa Benoist who on her official instagram profile had commented in a heartfelt way saying that:

Saying that it was a honor playing this iconic character would be a great understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the series has had on girls all over the world has always left me full of pride and speechless. She had this impact on me too. It made me discover a strength that I did not know I had, to find hope in the darkest places, and that one is stronger when one is united. What she represents pushes us all to be better. She has changed my life for the better and I will always be grateful to her. I am really excited to be able to plan the conclusion of this fantastic journey, I can't wait for you to see what we have in store. I promise we will give our all for a sensational last season.

With the announcement, the speculation machine on the reasons for the closure had obviously started. It seems that to contribute to the decision was the actress's pregnancy, who would have asked for less busy commitments in the near future, but also the stable but not encouraging ratings of last season and the inevitable problems related to the pandemic that are radically changing and increasing. the production costs of all TV series.

Supergirl debuted in 2015 on CBS and, after being canceled, was acquired by The CW which incorporated it into the Arrowverse. With last year's crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths, it was also established that all the series inhabited the same Earth, opening up to unpublished team-ups that, however, we will not see. Stargirl Season 2 will also arrive on The CW, which ideally replaces Supergirl.

Supergirl is broadcast in Italy on Mediaset Premium and Italy 1.
