Mediatek Dimensity 1100 and 1200, here are the new chips for 5G flagships
MediaTek has just presented the new chipsets called Dimensity 1100 and 1200, which presumably will be destined to equip future 5G smartphones ready to debut on the market in the coming months. A bit like success with Qualcomm and its new Snapdragon 870 announced yesterday, even in this case, it would be more of an update to the Dimensity 1000 Plus SoC, seen last year, than a real new processor. Even the production process has remained the same, namely the 6nm one offered by TSMC.

Mediatek Dimensity 1200 The Dimensity 1200 is still the most powerful solution, thanks to the presence of a Cortex-A78 core clocked at up to 3GHz , paired with three other Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.6GHz. On the other hand, the new Dimensity 1100 chip loses its primary core, offering four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.6GHz, in addition to four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz.

As for the GPU (i.e. the graphics processing unit), both the Dimensity 1100 and the 1200 both contain a nine-core ARM Mali-G77, with support for the system developed for gaming and called HyperEngine 3.0 made by MediaTek .

Mediatek Dimensity 1200 The new flagship SoC is able to support displays with a maximum refresh rate of 168Hz and a FHD + resolution or alternatively it stops at 90Hz for QHD + panels. The Dimensity 1100 achieves a refresh rate of up to 144Hz with FHD + resolution and 90Hz with the QHD +, but in both cases there is support for HDR10 + video playback.

Moving on to the photographic sector, the Dimensity 1200 is able to offer the best performance, so much so that it supports single image sensors up to 200MP or double image sensors up to 32MP + 16MP thanks to the implementation of an ISP (sensor of image), penta-core. The Dimensity 1100 supports "only" single image sensors up to 108MP or dual up to 32MP + 16MP.

Mediatek Dimensity 1100 and 1200 Very important note, both chipsets include support for 5G connectivity both in the FDD and TDD spectrum, in addition to the possibility of using 5G also in dual-SIM. Support for Bluetooth 5.2 is also included, along with the ability to capture 4K HDR video with greater dynamic range.

From a performance standpoint, MediaTek says the Dimensity 1200 should be around 10% more faster than the Dimensity 1100 thanks to the presence of the Cortex-A78 which is much more powerful. Finally, we find a new hexa-core processor dedicated to the AI MediaTek APU 3.0 designed to offer an improved task scheduler, aimed at reducing latency and reducing power consumption.

The first devices equipped with the Dimensity 1200 chipset and 1100 should be released in the first quarter of 2021 and the first manufacturers to benefit could be Realme, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi. Not surprisingly, MediaTek has launched a close campaign against Qualcomm's dominance for the smartphone chipset market.

Even if the Chinese manufacturer will not provide its solutions to the top-of-the-range devices of the various most popular brands , including Samsung, Google, LG or OnePlus, at least in the initial phase, the new Dimensity processors will offer themselves as a valid alternative for those who decide to launch new medium-high-end devices with an eye to costs.

The new 256GB iPhone 12 Pro Max is on offer at a very attractive price, thanks to the discount available at check-out. Don't miss the opportunity, click here.
