Microlino: versions, price and availability in Italy of the small electric car

Microlino

After a long development program, the Microlino is now ready to debut on the market. The new ultra-compact electric car is configurable and, above all, orderable. The first units of the small zero-emission vehicle developed by the Swiss company Micro Mobility will arrive on the market by the end of 2022. Deliveries of the Pioneer Series, the limited edition of the Microlino developed on the occasion of the commercial launch, will begin during the summer.

Subsequently, during 2023, a substantial increase in availability is expected. The car arrives on the market in three different trim levels (Urban, Dolce and Competizione) and with prices starting at 14,990 euros. Since its debut, the Microlino has been characterized by its compact size and iconic design. The new model is on the market today as a concrete alternative to electric cars for completely zero-emission urban mobility, lots of practicality and substance and also a touch of style which certainly represents a plus for the project and could support sales , already in this first phase of the launch.

Despite its small size, there is much to say about the Microlino. The project has been the protagonist of a long development and has all the credentials to carve out its space on the four-wheel market. Here is everything you need to know about the Microlino starting from the technical specifications of the vehicle and up to the versions and equipment available to motorists interested in purchasing:

Dimensions

--> Let's start with one of the most characteristic aspects of the new Microlino: the dimensions. The electric is equipped with truly ultra-compact dimensions with a length of just 2.5 meters and a width of 1.47 meters. A quick comparison with the dimensions of the Smart ForTwo (also equipped with two seats) confirms the small footprint that characterizes the Microlino. The Smart is 2.7 meters long and 1.66 meters wide, making it much larger than the Microlino. Among the microcars, however, there are even smaller alternatives such as the Citroen Ami which is 2.4 meters long and 1.39 meters wide.

Microlino

Cockpit

--> From the outside, the Microlino has an already iconic design that will inevitably make it a protagonist (positively or negatively, it will depend on the tastes of the observer) of European and Italian roads. Even inside the passenger compartment, however, there is certainly no shortage of interesting elements worthy of further study. The small electric is equipped with a single door that allows access to the passenger compartment and which is located in the front part. This is an unusual solution which also affects the interior design.

Microlino Inside the passenger compartment there is a seat that can accommodate the driver and a passenger. Considering the small dimensions, especially in width in this case, the risk of being cramped inside the Microlino is real. The steering is fixed and connected to the base of the car, without following the opening of the front hatch. There is also space for a small display that integrates the instrument panel. Inside the passenger compartment there are minimal design solutions that recall the simplicity of the exterior.

--> Behind the seats there is a small load space featuring a total capacity of around 230 litres. A special rear hatch is available to access the compartment in question.

The technical details and performance of the Microlino

Let's now move on to one of the main elements of the Microlino project. The technical sector of the car is basic but not uninteresting for this. The vehicle can count on the thrust of a 12.5 kW engine capable of taking the Microlino up to a maximum speed of 90 km/h with a 0-50 km/h sprint completed in 5 seconds. The performance, therefore, considering the type of car, is interesting. The engine also offers a maximum torque of 89 Nm.

To support the engine we find, of course, a battery pack. There are three options available to future Microlino buyers. There is a basic 6 kWh cut, an intermediate 10.5 kWh version and a "top" model capable of offering a capacity of 14 kWh. All three battery options feature a lithium-ion battery (NMC/NCA). The battery capacity significantly influences the weight of the car, which goes from 497 kilograms to 535 kilograms based on the battery size chosen.

Microlino As far as recharging times are concerned, instead , it takes between 3 and 4 hours for a full charge. With the 6 kWh battery, a 1.35 kW charger is available, while the other two variants can count on a 2.6 kW recharging power which allows a reduction in the time required for a complete refueling, despite the increase in capacity.

Weight and capacity of the battery also influence the effective autonomy of the Microlino. The data provided by the company, in any case, confirm that the car is capable of traveling up to 230 kilometres. This level of autonomy is achieved with the Large version (the 14 kWh one) of the battery and use during the summer months. In fact, during the winter, the range with the Large battery drops to 184 kilometres.

Here are the data declared in all the available configurations (both in winter and in summer) of the Microlino:

Battery Summer Winter Small (6 kWh) 95 kilometers 76 kilometers Medium (10.5 kWh) 175 kilometers 140 kilometers Large (14 kWh) 230 kilometers 184 kilometers On the occasion of the 2022 Paris Motor Show there was the debut of the Microlino Lite . It is a special version of the microcar that arrives on the market with the L7e light vehicle approval. This special version has a speed limit of 45 km/h and can therefore also be driven without a license in many countries in Europe. This version incorporates the three battery sizes illustrated above with the possibility, therefore, of reaching up to 230 kilometers of autonomy by choosing the "large" size.

Also on the occasion of the Paris fair, the company unveiled the Microlino Spiaggina concept car where the roof is replaced by a white and blue canvas. The concept has some exclusive features such as wood paneling for the interior. From the prototype, the creation of a standard version is planned, which will arrive, as a limited series, during the second half of 2023.

Who makes the Microlino?

The Microlino is a project by Micro Mobility Systems, a Swiss company that has been active in the sector for several decades with various projects behind it. The production of the Microlino, however, takes place in Italy. The vehicle is, in fact, produced in the Cecomp plant in Turin. As also suggested by the official video published by Micro Mobility on the occasion of the start of production activities, the Microlino is a "Made in Italy" project. It should also be noted that more than 80% of the car's components are produced within the borders of the EU.

Prices and versions of the Microlino: how much does the electric minicar cost?

The Microlino debuts on the market with the Pioneer Series, a special edition with particularly rich equipment. This special series will hit European roads starting next summer. The asking price for the purchase of the special launch series of the small electric car is 20,999 euros. In any case, to conquer the market, the company focuses on a particularly articulated range, with three versions from which to choose the option that best suits your needs.

The Microlino price list starts from the Urban version, arriving on the market with a price of 14,990 euros. This is the entry level model of the range and, as such, will be the last to go into production with deliveries expected only starting from the second quarter of 2023. At least for the moment, this variant is only available in the Standard Range version, with the Small battery pack and, therefore, with a maximum range of 95 kilometres.

The heart of the electric microcar range, however, is the Dolce trim level, available from 17,070 euros. In addition to offering more standard equipment and more colors for the bodywork, this version of the Microlino can be configured with all three battery cuts. To switch to the Medium Range it is necessary to take into account an extra expense of 1,990 euros, while for the Long Range version, with a Large battery pack, an additional expense of 3,500 euros is required.

The top of the range is, instead, , the Competizione version, available only in the versions with Medium and Large batteries (+1,500 euros) with prices starting at 19,080 euros. This version has fewer customization options, with a more elegant look than the Dolce, designed instead for those looking for a more personal car. In any case, both trim levels will be available between the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023.

As for the Microlino Lite, an L6e approved version with a speed limited to 45 km/h, for the At the moment, the prices of the car have not been announced but its debut is in any case expected during 2023. The price list should be slightly lower than the prices indicated for the Microlino seen previously.

Why buy it

The Microlino is designed to use in an urban environment, with short journeys with zero emissions. This is a project that fits into a market segment that, over the next few years, could experience substantial growth. Those looking for a second car or in any case a means of getting around the city and for short or medium distances can therefore take the new Microlino into consideration. Compared to electric cars (even the cheapest ones), the Micro Mobility quadricycle offers clear savings, even if accompanied by some renunciations.

For many, however, it could be easy to turn a blind eye to these shortcomings and focus on the practicality and convenience of Microlino, net, of course, of accepting the design (iconic but inevitably destined to cause discussion) of the model. Furthermore, those evaluating the purchase of a new Microlino have many options for choosing the right model for their needs. The range includes three trim levels. The Urban model (arriving in late 2023) can already represent the right solution for everyday urban mobility.

The transition to the more complete versions, both in terms of equipment and autonomy, can in any case represent the right choice, especially for more intense use. These will be the first tests to reveal the real performance and practicality of the Microlino in conditions of real use.
