The SEGA Mega Drive Mini 2 will also arrive in the West

Towards the end of the week the SEGA Mega Drive Mini 2 was officially announced. unveiled the first information relating to the "makeover" of the hardware. However, if initially it was thought that the console could be a territorial exclusive dedicated only to Japanese players, thanks to an interview with Famitsu we know that this will not be the case.

Immediately after the announcement of the SEGA Mega Drive Mini 2, in fact, an interview with the famous Japanese magazine confirmed SEGA's desire to launch the console also outside Japan. At the moment, however, there are no further details on the price as well as on the release date. The feeling is that the console will probably be available in the US and European markets only after the launch in Japan, scheduled for October 27, 2022 at just under $ 100.| ); }
The SEGA Mega Drive Mini 2 is just one of the latest mini consoles launched on the market in recent years. Just recently, in fact, the A500 Mini saw the light, or the miniature version (with keyboard not working) of the Amiga 500. And who knows if in the future Nintendo decides, once and for all, to launch a mini version of its Nintendo 64. Hoping (and dreaming) costs nothing, don't you think?

The Mega Drive Mini 2 Has Been Announced And Will Include Mega CD Games

The Mega Drive Mini 2 is released in Japan this October.

Sega

Following the success of the first Mega Drive Mini, Sega has announced the Mega Drive Mini 2 that will also feature Mega CD games.

It was an inevitability that Sega would follow up its Mega Drive Mini with an updated version, not least because of the huge gaming catalogue at their disposal but also to cater to Mega CD releases.

The Mega Drive Mini 2 will have 50 new games included on it, and it will also come with a variety of mostly cosmetic accessories. Namely the dock and Mega CD player, though sadly not functional.

The current roster of games that are currently announced are as follows:

Cartridge Titles

  • Bonanza Bros.
  • Fantasy Zone
  • Magical Taruruuto-kun
  • Shining in the Darkness
  • Thunder Force IV
  • Virtua Racing
  • Mega CD Titles

  • Mansion of Hidden Souls
  • Popful Mail
  • Shining Force CD
  • Silpheed
  • Sonic the Hedgehog CD
  • The main Mega Drive Mini 2 console will cost 10,978 yen (or around $84) and will be released in Japan on October 27. The cosmetic add-on Mega Drive Tower Mini 2 will cost 4,950 yen (or around $38) and be released on the same day.

While this is currently Japan only release, like the first Mega Drive Mini I full expect it to come Westward not long after its Japanese release.
