Severed Steel: You can try this shooter for free

Severed Steel

The stylish first person shooter Severed Steel has certainly cast a spell on one or the other at the Future Games Show at E3 last month. After all, the firefights of the one-armed assassin Steel not only look like real action fireworks, but also advertise with quick maneuvers and dicey bullet-time situations. Now you can register for a closed beta and try out Severed Steel for free.

This is what the beta offers you

The closed beta runs from July 14 to 21, 2021 and entices with ten campaign and ten arcade levels, new opponents and new features such as "the ground is lava". Feedback that the development team received during the demo at Steam Next Fest should also be included.

You can easily register on the game's Discord channel. It is not known whether there is a maximum number of players. But because the title is not a triple A blockbuster and the beta lasts a whole week, the chances are certainly good that everyone interested will have a chance.

A one-handed protagonist and lots of action

According to Severed Steel, the premise of Severed Steel is quite simple: "You, your trigger finger and your steel toe boots against a superstructure full of bad guys." But that doesn't mean that the first person shooter doesn't offer any depth of game. The dynamic encounters focus mainly on different possibilities of movement.

Anyone who runs along walls like a lively monkey, flips and slides across the floor in order to flatten loads of opponents in slow motion, will certainly hit each other Feel reminded of titles like Superhot or My Friend Pedro. Severed Steel has one special feature: You cannot reload. If your magazine is empty, you have to grab the enemies' weapons, otherwise you will hop faster than you can say "Steel".

There is no date listed for Severed Steel on Steam, the title should come according to the trailer, but still in the summer. If you don't want to miss the release, you can put the game on your wish list there as a precaution. If you are one of the Konsoleros, don't panic: Severed Steel should also be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

'Severed Steel' Closed PC Beta Next Week, Accepting Sign-ups

by Rainier on July 7, 2021 @ 3:34 p.m. PDT

Severed Steel is a single-player FPS featuring a fluid stunt system, no weapon reloads, destructible voxel environments, and a one-armed protagonist named Steel.

After losing an arm in an accident, Steel is abandoned – like many before her – by nefarious mega-corporation, EdenSys. In the name of all those crushed under the boot of her former paymaster, Steel sets her sights on revenge.

Inspired by games such as Black, Mirror's Edge, F.E.A.R., and Half-Life mod 'The Specialists', Severed Steel focuses on nimble, acrobatic combat and features a fluid stunt system. Steel can wall run, dive, slide, and flip around the destructible environments that comprise EdenSys' Arctic superstructure.

Steel's residual limb means she can't reload weapons. When a gun is out of ammo, she must find a replacement, which often means stealing a weapon straight from the hands of an enemy. During the campaign, Steel is fitted with a permanent secondary weapon – an arm cannon capable of blowing holes in pretty much anything that gets in its way.

It's you, your trigger finger, and a steel-toed boot against a superstructure full of bad guys. Chain together wall runs, dives, flips, and slides to take every last enemy down.

Publisher Digerati and developer Greylock Studios will be running a a closed PC beta between 14-21 July, so if you're interested in participating and providing feedback to help refine the experience as it enters the final stages of development, be sure to click here to sign-up now via Discord.

  • 10 arcade mode levels
  • New game modifying 'mutators' (including 'floor is lava' and 'dive into wall run')
  • New enemies (including jetpacks and flamethrowers)
  • The beta also features changes made based on player feedback gathered during the recent Steam Next Fest (including tweaks to movement speed, HUD, and weapon balancing), so a huge thank you to everyone who downloaded and played the demo! We were absolutely blown away by the support!

  • Severed Steel is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC (Steam) in Q3 2021.
