Twitter is testing a section dedicated to shopping

The Shop module will allow companies to show and sell their products to users without leaving the platform. For now it is only available in the United States

Twitter has indeed made it known that users of its platform will soon be able to purchase products when they visit a company's profile thanks to the introduction of its new Shop Module function.

This is not it is the first time the company has explored adding purchasing functionality to its platform. In 2015 it tested a “Buy Now” button, product pages and product collections. The social network, however, had then decided to take other paths.

Now the company has decided to return to focus on in-app sales - as he specified with a post on his blog - testing its potential.

The Shop Module will be located at the top of a profile and here businesses can showcase their products. When people visit a profile with the Shop Module enabled, they can scroll through the product carousel and tap on a single product to learn more and purchase it, with an in-app browser, without having to log out of Twitter.

Twitter's partnership with businesses also includes the creation of a new advisory board for merchants "which will be comprised of brands that have established themselves as the best examples of merchants on its platform" and which will help the company to respond more easily to their needs.

According to Twitter itself, the turning point towards shopping in the app will also be based on professional profiles, which began to appear earlier this year. Companies around the world “will have access to custom profiles with features designed to drive engagement and business results.”
