Google will ban sugar daddy applications from the Play Store

From September 1st on the Play Store all apps that promote or facilitate meetings in which there is a fee will be banned

Sugar dating refers to relationships involving older men who offer money and gifts in exchange for a relationship with younger women. In these cases, the exchange does not always involve sex.

In any case, from 1 September, the app store will ban services for "sugar daddy". Google writes that it is "updating the Inappropriate Content Policy to institute new restrictions on content of a sexual nature, specifically banning paid sexual relationships." Other changes coming to the platform include a new crackdown on inactive developer accounts.

There are several apps in the Play Store that explicitly or implicitly facilitate "sugar dating", some of which count hundreds of thousands of installations. A number of them are called Sugar Daddy, while others have names like Elite Millionaire Singles, SeekingArrangement and Spoil. They all aim to connect generous men with attractive girls.

Google Play Store policies already ban apps that promote "services that can be construed as sexual acts for a fee." But the updated wording expands this definition to explicitly include "compensated encounters or sexual agreements in which a participant is expected or implied to provide money, gifts or financial support to another participant."

Google's announcement comes in the midst of a crackdown on online sex work by platforms following the introduction of the 2018 US law, which removes Section 230 protections for content that " promote or facilitate prostitution. ”

Although these apps and all others will be removed by September 1, they will still be available via sideloading between two devices, Engadget noted.
