Microsoft Flight Simulator on Series X: Conquering the Globe

Microsoft Flight Simulator on Series X

Microsoft Flight Simulator arrives on Xbox Series X and Series S (since day-one on Game Pass): it is the first time in history that the Redmond home simulator lands on consoles. An unparalleled opportunity, because Flight Simulator is more than just a simulator. In this editorial, I will try to convey my enthusiasm to you after more than a year of waiting. Yes, because the simulator developed by Asobo Studio, for me, is the real take-off of a next-gen that has not yet pulled out its nails. Without getting lost in further talk, let's examine together what Microsoft Flight Simulator will offer to owners of the next-gen Xbox!

Microsoft Flight Simulator on Series X: conquering the globe

37,000 airports, 2 million of cities, 1.5 billion buildings, wildlife, traffic and the entire globe at your screen. Microsoft Flight Simulator is this: the first true virtual experience that will allow unprecedented adventures. Thanks to the immeasurable amount of data, about 2 Petabytes, of the satellite maps (reproduced thanks to the cloud), the simulator will allow users to move far and wide for the whole world. In addition to the cities reproduced through photogrammetry, most of the world will be simulated thanks to machine learning, a technique capable of recreating the environment with decisive fidelity.

As if that were not enough, Flight Simulator also gives vent to fantasy of modders, able to enrich the game experience with new aircraft, tools and map improvements. All you need to do is access the list of the various mods, examine the ones that inspire us most and add them to our personal experience.

A childhood dream

"I hope that one day someone will be able to reproduce the whole world in a video game", I fantasized two decades ago. As I said at the beginning, Flight Simulator is not just a simple simulator, but the realization of a childhood dream: as a child, in fact, I dreamed of being able to have a window on the world on the screen in my room; and today it is possible. Precisely for this reason, a few months ago, I decided to buy a Series X: to be able to play the title of Microsoft and Asobo, to finally be able to satiate one of my many dreams.

In fact, the simulator is not limited only to reproduce the world, but it also makes it alive. Let me explain: in addition to the maps reproduced in full, Flight Simulator will simulate the weather in the world in real time. If the US East Coast, for example, were hit by a tremendous hurricane, we users could decide to start the simulator and venture inside it, starting a series of imaginative adventures. And fantasy is the key fulcrum, for me, to enjoy this technical jewel to the fullest.

Venturing into stormy clouds aboard an Airbus 320, taking an ambitious and long journey from Italy to Japan piloting a Boeing 747, flying over the sub-Saharan forests with a Cessna 152 to observe exotic fauna; they are all experiences capable of stimulating the imagination of dreamers. For this reason, I repeat, Microsoft Flight Simulator is not just an experience, but a real opportunity for owners of Series X | S. It will be you, the whole world and your desire for exploration.

Thanks also to the guided tours, it will also be possible to discover many curiosities about our planet, such as breathtaking naturalistic frontiers or cities with an ancient heritage behind. A Discovery Tour to discover that world that we often take for granted, but which is capable of surprising us throughout the course of our life. We hope that flying over the blue planet can help us find a thread of sensitivity, to be able to preserve and love our big home.

Flying a plane

Let's move on to the other part of the experience, that is to the simulation itself. Microsoft Flight Simulator perfectly reproduces some of the airliners, aviation and real titans of the sky with meticulous care, offering users over thirty vehicles among those already included in the Standard Edition and through free and non-free DLC. Arm yourself, therefore, with a mouse, keyboard and pad (or better still with special peripherals for flight simulators) to fully enjoy the experience created by Asobo Studio.

Piloting an aircraft will not be easy at all: you will have to then rely on the different tutorials offered. Yes, you got it right: several tutorials. Because flying a Boeing is not at all the same as flying an aircraft such as the aforementioned Cessna 152. Patience, therefore, must be your best friend during the first days of the game; but the subsequent satisfaction, when you find yourself making an emergency landing or performing heart-stopping stunts, will pay off your efforts.

Then, as I wrote above, you can combine the simulation with your imagination and leave for your destinations that most please you without any limit. It will be exciting every single minute of the game: from the preparation before the trip, with all the adjustments to be made in the cockpit, until reaching your goal, whether it is far or near. In conclusion, we at Game Division can only wish you a good journey, and may this be the beginning of a next-gen that is finally about to take off.
