Starfield: Solid clue discovered - is the game coming soon?

Starfield

Bethesda Game Studios, the Rockville (USA) -based development studio led by industry icon Todd Howard, is particularly famous for the two giant RPG brands The Elder Scrolls (our test for the Switch port of Skyrim) and Fallout. The latest release, the online adventure Fallout 76, was a disappointment for many fans. With the big Wasteland update, the content of Fallout 76 was turned upside down, but unfortunately the role-playing game remained a flop. With the ambitious sci-fi role-playing game, Starfield, a completely new brand from Bethesda, the aim is to build on old successes. So far there has been no concrete information about when Starfield will appear - but that is now changing!

Tangible information about the Starfield release!

On June 10, 2018, Starfield was announced as the next big project at Bethesda’s E3 press conference. Apart from a cryptic teaser trailer, there has been hardly any tangible information so far. Zenimax, the parent company of Bethesda, which from now on is part of Xbox Game Studios through a mega deal on the part of Microsoft, gave an indication with an exciting homepage update that Starfield will actually appear in 2021. There, the brand protection entry clearly refers to the year 2021 as the release. Industry insider "Matty" shared the update on Twitter.

The copyright date always refers to the very first publication, so Zenimax and Microsoft currently have to plan firmly to bring Starfield (buy now) onto the market in the period of 2021. Of course, postponements always play a role, especially in the crazy Corona times that we are currently going through, but that is definitely a confirmation of the many rumors about a planned release in 2021.

Will Starfield become an Xbox exclusive role play?

Even if Starfield appears in 2021, the big question remains whether Microsoft is aiming for an Xbox-exclusive release or whether Starfield will also release it for other platforms. Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, announced several times that the Bethesda games would be decided depending on the title. However, with a completely new IP it would definitely be easier to establish it as a future Xbox brand than it would with time-honored franchises like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.

'Starfield' Gameplay Trailer Could Be Featured At E3 2021; Updates, Official Details Following Announcement

KEY POINTS
  • E3 2021 is scheduled for June 12 to June 15 this year
  • The event will be all-virtual and would feature major names in the gaming industry
  • 'Starfield' could be Microsoft's star at this year's E3
  • 'Starfield' is the first new IP from Bethesda in 25 years, but following its announcement at the E3 2018, fans have not heard much about it. A lot happened after that, including Microsoft's acquisition of the gaming studio's parent company ZeniMax.  With Microsoft's presence at the E3, fans believe that 'Starfield' could be its major showcase at this year's all-virtual gaming convention.

Microsoft and Bethesda have not said anything related to 'Starfield' and E3 2021. Rumors are rife about the game potentially the company's major play at the upcoming gaming event. In a recent report, Gamerant speculates that Bethesda's next sci-fi space-faring game might be Microsoft's star at the E3 2021.

According to the report, the Redmond-based tech titan might not have a lot to showcase this year despite its 23-subsidiary Xbox Game Studios. 'Halo Infinite will probably be a part of the show as it gears up for its fall release. However, Microsoft's other big projects such as Everwild, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, and Perfect Dark, among many others, are still some ways off and won't probably grace the stage this E3,' the report added.

Industry insider Jeff Grubb previously said that Microsoft wants to show off 'Starfield' this Summer. This seemingly suggests that fans might get a glimpse of the game again. Meanwhile, until now, the industry is still guessing about the release date of 'Starfield.'

Bethesda's Todd Howard said at the E3 2018 that the game is one that the team ' have spent years thinking about and working on.' A year after that, Howard said that Bethesda is “still hard at work” on both The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield. He explained that “Starfield is playable, Elder Scrolls VI not in that way yet.”

Following Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax, there were rumors that 'Starfield' might release as an Xbox-exclusive title. It is not yet confirmed, though, considering that Microsoft has given vague statements about this topic in the past. This is the first E3 since Microsoft acquired Bethesda and many believe that the company would not want to miss this opportunity to show off 'Starfield' for the first time.
