E3 2021: the 11 best trailers

E3 2021

With the recent Nintendo Direct and Bandai Namco conference, E3 2021 has come to an end. After the total cancellation in 2020, this year we experienced the largest event dedicated to video games in a completely digital way. The classic protagonists, however, have not pulled back, giving us the opportunity to see the new games produced by Xbox Game Studios, Square Enix, Ubisoft and others. Geoff Keighley also organized the Summer Game Fest only a few days from the beginning of E3, to give us some other interesting trailers on the world of video games.

In all these days on our pages we have offered you a complete coverage of all the announcements with news, insights, previews and many video trailers and gameplay. We therefore invite you to browse the site if you have missed something, using the practical links to the summaries of the conferences present in the slider on the homepage. For the lazy, however, we have prepared the following article in which we will present the best trailers seen at E3 2021.

Death Stranding Director's Cut

Let's start with one of the most important announcements of the Summer Game Fest, even if it wasn't really part of E3 2021. Geoff Keighley brought to the stage an interesting interview with the director of Death Stranding. Hideo Kojima explained to the audience how he intends to develop his own titles in the future, leaving us in the end with a truly brilliant trailer. In the movie we saw the protagonist of Death Stranding sneak into an underground with many references to the popular Metal Gear Solid saga. At the end, the real announcement appeared with the imminent arrival of Death Stranding Director's Cut for Playstation 5. Probably this video game will have additional content and will exploit the power of the new Sony flagship to guarantee a 4K experience at 60 frames per second.

Elden Ring

The epic finale of the Summer Game Fest featured the highly anticipated Elden Ring. The new title from From Software finally has a release date, set with the trailer for January 21, 2022. During the gameplay video we were able to admire the first glimpses of the game world, made in collaboration with the popular writer George R.R. Martin, the author of the Chronicles of Ice and Fire. Subsequently, director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed some additional details on Elden Ring to better prepare us for the many new mechanics added in this first From Software game with an open world structure. We remind you that the title will be cross-gen, so it will arrive on old and new generation consoles, as well as on PC.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Ubisoft wanted to create a dedicated video game to the popular universe born with the movie Avatar. The name of the project is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and will arrive on the next generation consoles, PC and Stadia in the course of 2022. The graphics engine used is the Snowdrop Engine, which immediately flexed its muscles in the trailer shown. Having not seen real gameplay sequences, we cannot give you any further anticipation on the title. In the coming months, the Ubisoft Massive development studio should release some further information about the title and confirm a precise release date in 2022.

Far Cry 6

In addition to having previewed it, Far Cry 6 was featured in numerous conferences during E3. During the show organized by the Ubisoft producers we were able to admire a new trailer in which the villain of the moment made himself known better. His name is Antòn Castillo and is interpreted by the great Giancarlo Esposito. El Presidente will be the main antagonist of this new chapter in the Far Cry series, which will arrive for consoles and PC on October 7th. On our pages you will already find numerous previews and other contents to deepen this highly anticipated open world title created by Ubisoft.

Starfield

After the announcement in the now distant 2018, Bethesda Softworks has finally done see more about his next big title. We are clearly talking about Starfield, the long-awaited role-playing game set in space. Following Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda Studios, Todd Howard announced during E3 that they are ready to immerse us in a vast new world full of adventures. Unfortunately, we saw very little in the trailer, but everything was rendered with the game engine used by Bethesda to create Starfield. In the end we also discovered its release date, officially set for November 11, 2022, the day in which it will land exclusively on the Xbox platforms.

Forza Horizon 5

The next racing game by Playground Games will arrive on the Xbox Game Pass on November 9th. What we saw in the E3 trailer is truly spectacular, because this Forza Horizon 5 is in effect a next-gen game. Already in the past chapters the developers have accustomed us to a technical sector of the highest level. Thanks to the power of the new generation consoles, they have even managed to outdo each other, giving us a practically photorealistic experience.

Forza Horizon 5 will take us to Mexico, within what has been defined by the developers as the largest gaming area they have ever created. Everything will then be influenced by the presence of seasons and unpredictable weather events to give greater dynamism to the most anticipated racing title of this 2021.

The Outer Worlds 2

Despite The Outer Worlds 2 was only mentioned with its official title to confirm its existence, the trailer released by the developers is truly brilliant. Having to announce the title coming exclusively on Xbox Game Pass and not having real game sequences available, the developers have opted for a very particular approach. What they showed is an ironic trailer about the fact that they didn't actually have anything concrete to show, so they added some "random" sequences just to give the idea of the mood offered by The Outer Worlds 2.

This sequel will in fact resume the classic sci-fi setting, floured with elements of parody sarcasm of modern capitalist society and even sci-fi itself.

Somerville

This video game with a very particular style was created by one of the authors of Limbo. The first Somerville teaser dates back to July 2018, but during the Microsoft E3 conference we discovered that it will arrive in the course of 2022 on the Game Pass. The title particularly recalls the Playdead productions such as Limbo and Inside, both in terms of gameplay setting and in terms of graphics and general atmosphere. The trailer we saw made us discover a family on the run in a post-apocalyptic world, full of dangers and natural cataclysms with various supernatural elements.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

Surprisingly, Square Enix has announced the arrival of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. The title developed by Eidos Montreal based on the famous heroes also protagonists of a film saga immediately seemed to us in excellent shape. In addition to the announcement trailer, we were also provided with a rather exhaustive gameplay video, where we understood the game mechanics present, such as combat and role-playing moral choices.

The style chosen by the developers is very reminiscent of the themes and colors of the film saga, as well as the characterization of the protagonists. We can't wait to get your hands on this Square Enix video game, out for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One.

Metroid Dread

Let's move on finally at the Nintendo conference, one of the last of this E3 2021. In the Direct organized by the Japanese company we were able to admire the next Metroid. This is not the highly anticipated fourth installment of the series, announced several years ago on the occasion of E3, but rather the sequel to Metroid Fusion.

The official name of the title is Metroid Dread and will arrive for Nintendo Switch on 8 October 2021. It is in fact the direct sequel to Metroid Fusion, a rather old game released in 2002 and will conclude the five-part saga dedicated to the mysterious interconnected fate of bounty hunter Samus and the Metroids. The gameplay trailer allowed us to observe the new game mechanics such as the new combat and movement system of the protagonist, which however seems very similar to the previous chapters particularly linked to the metroidvania style.

The Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild 2

Last but not least we find what was probably the most anticipated trailer of this E3 2021. We are clearly talking about the sequel to The Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild seen during Nintendo Direct. Unfortunately the video was really short, but we have already been able to learn some really important details about one of the most anticipated sequels ever. The huge success of Breath Of The Wild has raised expectations beyond all limits, so the developers have a big responsibility to finish. The director assured us that development is proceeding according to plan and that the title will arrive in the course of 2022.
