Demon Slayer: between manga and anime

Koyoharu Gotouge has started the serialization of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba on the weekly magazine of manga for boys Weekly Shonen Jump by Shueisha in February 2016. The series in Japan ended in May 2020. In Italy the manga is published by Star Comics, together with the first of the two novels of the franchise, Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no yaiba - Il flower of happiness (here our review!) which describes the plot as follows:

Japan, the dawn of the twentieth century. Young Tanjiro, a kind coal seller, sees his daily life upset by the extermination of his family by a demon. The only one left alive is her younger sister Nezuko, who, however, has been transformed into a demon herself. To get her back as before and take revenge on the monster who killed her mother and siblings, Tanjiro sets out on a journey with Nezuko, starting a thrilling tale of blood, swords and adventure!

The manga inspired an anime adaptation, the first season of which, by the Ufotable studio and consisting of 26 episodes, premiered in April 2019. Hikaru Kondo produced the anime, Haruo Sotozaki he was in charge of directing, Yuki Kajiura and Gō Shiina of the soundtrack, while Akira Matsushima of the character design. The Demon Slayer anime is available in Italy on VVVVID, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.

The second season, entitled Demon Slayer, Kimetsu no Yaiba - Yukaku-hen, will be released in October 2021.

The franchise has also inspired a film, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, released in Japanese cinemas on October 16, 2020 while in Italy it will arrive at a later date for Dynit.
